POSITION SUMMARY:
The Prototype Manager is responsible for overseeing the execution of prototypes from engineering through production, assuring they arrive on time and to the customer in the highest of quality. They are the conduit between sales and the prototype process by maintaining daily communication on progress and issues. The Prototype Manager takes into consideration all aspects of a request and formulates the best plan of execution to accommodate all criteria. They continuously evaluate the prototype process for improvements in efficiency and quality and developing a diverse range of skills among the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Owns the prototype schedule, communicates with all parties following the sample process to execute on time high quality results.
- Leads coordination efforts with engineering, design, and estimating to make sure final documentation is completed accurately before kicking off sample requests.
- Works with our factory partners and team in China to resolve questions resulting in changes to prototypes.
- Utilizes SolidWorks following the expectations of the Engineering Manager to formally make changes and develop prototype concepts like the Design Engineer role.
- Organizes execution plans of prototypes with Prototype Supervisor and Prototype Manufacturing Engineer to assure on time shipments.
- Ensures the prototype process and responsibilities within are being executed by all team members.
- Works closely with the Engineering Manager to align project priority around samples to achieve overall project deadlines.
- Coordinate with production when additional resources may be needed to support delivery of prototypes
- Engage in customer meetings to show strong knowledge in the engineering and manufacturing of retail environments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has direct reports.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in SolidWorks.
- High level of manufacturing, engineering and material knowledge in metal, wood and plastics.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work, and eye for quality.
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management programs specifically the Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Strong communication and active listening skills, ability to receive input from others and give feedback.
- Organizational and time management skills, ability to multitask.
- Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and coordinate daily activities of the position.
- Ability to respond to internal and external customers in a professional and efficient manner.
- Reacts quickly, confident decision maker.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related field is required
- 2 or more years of experience in the development of custom solutions utilizing manufacturing methods in wood, metal and plastics.
- 2 or more years leading a team, process, program, and/or project

- Must have a valid driver's license and/or ID
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard
- Ability to read a variety of materials
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines
