Overview
The Protection Officer I works under the direction of the Protection Supervisor & Manager. The Officer performs functions to protect facilities and personnel from property loss and criminal activity. Provides services and assistance, as outlined by policies and procedures and directed by Management, to make the facility safe for employees, patients and visitors and to meet the expectations of Riverside Health.

What You Will Do
- Monitor fire, intrusion, duress, and security alarm systems and respond as appropriate. Maintain knowledge of infant security alarms (TOTs), Genetic access and video systems, WorxHub, and Omnigo. Function in emergency circumstances as directed. Operate communications equipment in keeping with assigned duties.
- Maintain positive public relations with the community. Escort employees, visitors, and patients as requested. Assist with transportation and lifting of patients as requested. Assist with visitor management credentialing and contraband searching/wanding. Direct and assist patients, visitors, employees, contractors, and other members of the public to the appropriate parking areas and entrances. Assist with employee, contractor, and visitor badging and ensure all persons are in compliance with policies.
- Patrol interior and exterior of the campus to prevent and detect criminal activity. Write traffic warnings and incident reports. Ensure appropriate equipment is in assigned vehicle, and maintain protection vehicles (cleaning, fluid levels and engine maintenance).
- Maintain logs, input work orders into WorxHub, input calls for service in Omnigo, keep SOPs updated, manage fire extinguishers and radios, and track equipment such as genetic and TOTs alarms and emergency blue lights.
- Keep files, SOPs and Omnigo calls for service current. Make written reports of incidents or unusual circumstances encountered while on duty, including safety and fire hazards. Provide detailed information in reports for quality monitoring and pass downs.
- Safety practices: Bring to the attention of the OIC/Supervisor any accidents, injuries, safety matters, or protection problems. Complete required computer-based training and other training modules. Identify opportunities for service improvement and participate in process improvement and in-services. Ensure safe practices per National Patient Safety Goals and RHS policies and procedures. Maintain a neat, clean work area compliant with RHS, NFPA, ISO, DNV and state safety standards.
Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
Experience
- Prior experience with security in a health care or other setting (Preferred)
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish assignments with accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to respond with flexibility to changes and varying work assignments
- Ability to communicate reliably and accurately with all team members
- Job functions related to vehicle operation/maintenance apply only where RHS vehicles are used. A valid drivers license is not required for locations without vehicle duties.
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Crisis Prevention (CPI) CPI within 90 days (Required)
- Control Tactics A To Z Training Solutions within 1 year (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification AHA/ARC/ASI within 90 days (Required)
- Certified Auto External Defibrillator (AED) AHA/ARC/ASI; if CPR is not BLS, AED is also required within 90 days (Required)
- Valid Driver's License required for roles involving vehicle operation
