Protection and Relaying Project Engineer *

HDR is seeking a Protection and Relaying Project Engineer to join our team of Power Delivery professionals. Locations available include: Austin, Ann Arbor, Boise, Bismarck, Billings, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Irvine, Fort Worth, Houston, Honolulu, Kansas City, Madison, Minneapolis, Missoula, Omaha, Phoenix, Portland, Richmond, Raleigh, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, Spokane, St. Louis, Syracuse, and others.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform protective relay calculations and set points.
  • Conduct relay coordination studies using short circuit modeling software.
  • Create relay setting files with vendor software.
  • Generate relay coordination compliance reports per NERC-PRC standards.
  • Produce client protective relay reports.
  • Support protective relay construction.
  • Work under supervision, with opportunities to lead tasks and mentor junior staff.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Coordinate with other substation design disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience in power system analysis, protection, relay settings, or substation design.
  • Familiarity with software such as CAPE, Aspen, ETAP.
  • Strong communication and computer skills.
  • Experience with transmission and distribution protection schemes, voltages from 12kV to 765kV.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • PE license.
  • Experience in power market sector project execution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software like PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Revit.
