Job Description
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Criminal Investigations Division, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lead Detective on the Wayne County Sexual Assault Kit Task Force. Responsibilities include conducting cold case investigations, collaborating with attorneys, advocates, businesses, and law enforcement, locating witnesses, conducting interviews, visiting crime scenes, and preparing warrants. As the Lead Detective, additional administrative duties are involved, including overseeing the unit's operations.
Required Tasks
- Ensure security of the Prosecutor's Office, premises, and employees, including physical safety and protecting sensitive information.
- Maintain detailed investigation records and prepare reports and statistics.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including prosecutors, detectives, victim advocates, and law enforcement agencies.
- Coordinate with office leadership and the Detroit Police Department.
- Review and approve search warrants, arrest warrants, police reports, and investigative reports.
- Close out completed investigations, requiring knowledge of laws governing criminal sexual conduct.
- Locate and interview witnesses, including alibi witnesses.
- Revisit crime scenes for additional evidence.
- Research and obtain court records and medical records from various institutions.
- Obtain lien records for court use.
- Coordinate with the Department of Corrections and Attorney General's Office on detention, extraditions, and appeals.
- Maintain investigation records and update the Chief of Investigations.
- Assist federal agencies as requested.
- Provide security assessments and threat reports for the Prosecutor.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Secondary education preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record and CCW license required.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of full-time law enforcement experience, with at least 5 years in criminal investigations.
- Preferred experience in sexual assault investigations.
- MCOLES certification required.
- Criminal background clearance required.
