Apex Systems, America's second largest technical staffing firm, has an opening for a Project Outreach Specialist Associate with a growing client in the Virginia area. This is a fast-paced environment offering professional growth and long term stability.
Title: Project Outreach Specialist Associate
Location: Roanoke, VA- 100% onsite with some travel (20%)
Duration: 12 month contract
M-F 40 hour week Possibility of OT
Travel (20%) would consist of site visits to attend or kick off meetings and open houses at remote field offices. Region: Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
Overnight stays are generally 1-2 nights, averaging every two months.
The job designation is onsite and will require 5 in office workdays every week.
Personal vehicle may be required to perform minor local job duties. Valid drivers license is required. Mileage is reimbursable. No per diem.
Most travel would be as a passenger with an employee in a company or rental car
The 20% overall travel would primarily be split:
VA - 40%
WV - 50%
KY - 10%
Job Summary:
This position supports Project Outreach with duties including: assisting in coordinating public events, creating and updating content for websites, writing draft media releases and other external documents, responding to inquiries from the public and key stakeholders, and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1) Develop public education and information materials, presentations, and web content to support outreach efforts, including internal content such as blog postings, etc.
2) Assist in planning and implementing public events, meetings, open house information sessions, etc.
3) Organize and participate at community outreach activities to educate internal and external audiences about Outreach and Transmission activities and projects.
4) Respond to public and community inquiries about transmission projects.
5) Participate in construction status meetings.
6) Contribute to the maintenance of team databases.
7) Work effectively with project managers, engineers, and other team members to articulate project goals, issues, and timelines.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
Work Experience: 0-2 years entry-level position.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Experience within utilities-related agency/organization is preferred.
2. Knowledge and experience in public relations, community outreach/relations, journalism, or public policy/outreach/relations.
3. Strong writing and oral presentation skills, including experience in facilitating public meetings and other public forums.
4. Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
5. Flair for creating engaging displays and public education materials.
6. Knowledge of photography and video editing would be a plus.
7. Knowledge and command of Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint and Excel).
8. Ability to translate technical material into consumer-friendly, easy to understand content.
