We seek a talented Project Manager to lead our Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice based in the New England area. The selected candidate will provide technical leadership for a variety of utility design projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, and water distribution systems. This position can be based in one of our Greater Boston area offices or fully remote in the United States; travel may be 1020%.

Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct individuals or teams of technical staff on complex projects and/or multiple simpler projects.
- Assist in the training and technical development of staff, including seminars, on-project guidance, and adopting new technical developments in-house.
- Consult with other technical staff and Project Managers on technical issues and provide technical reviews on projects as applicable.
- Identify potential risks in nonstandard technical matters or legal disputes and participate in required insurance training to minimize liability.
- Work with minimal supervision through demonstrated success on similar project responsibilities.
- Ensure technical accuracy of projects through regular communications, plan/specification/report/re-calculation reviews to comply with firm standards.
- Make technical presentations to clients and at public meetings to review and discuss project details.
Additional Responsibilities Project Management
- Initiate projects: prepare proposals/scopes of work and budgets for Principal approval; complete initiation documents with scope, budget, and schedule.
- Manage project implementation: coordinate with the project team to ensure work is completed as planned, keep the client informed of status, and provide management and support to team members.
- Coordinate with peers and subconsultants to avoid schedule conflicts.
- Supervise interdisciplinary teams: coordinate subcontractors and staff on execution and scheduling.
- Provide technical advice and contribute to developments of recommendations.
- Prepare high-quality reports and ensure QA/QC per procedures and standard formats.
- Client management: meet with key clients to discuss projects, evaluate performance, and identify new business opportunities.
Business/Fiscal Management
- Budget tracking and invoicing: monitor project costs and ensure timely invoicing per policy.
- Communicate opportunities: share potential new business or technology/regulatory factors with the company.
- Control costs: keep expenses in line with budgets; discuss variances with supervisor and issue notices for changes.
- Maximize project profitability through budgeting, resource utilization, and cost controls.
Marketing/Business Development
- Be a public relations ambassador by presenting and communicating company capabilities.
- Maintain marketing materials: develop project descriptions for use as marketing materials.
- Relationship building: solicit new clients/projects and set up meetings; participate in proposals and client interactions.
- Prepare proposals, participate in project interviews, attend public meetings, prepare fee proposals, and present information to new potential clients.
- Prepare contracts and negotiate fees for new projects.
Administrative
- Manage and develop project staff: assess strengths and areas for improvement; conduct annual reviews and provide development support.
- Coordinate workload with staff and other Project Managers, including forecasting and resource coordination.
What were looking for
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 9+ years of related experience at increasing levels of responsibility, or a Masters in a relevant field with 8 years of related experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer or other appropriate professional registrations in the states where Apex operates, or ability to obtain by reciprocity.
- Proven ability to work effectively with clients, staff, subconsultants, and contractors through strong leadership and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of state and federal regulatory frameworks with experience interacting with regulators in local and technical areas where Apex works.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong desire to manage and mentor junior staff.
- Valid drivers license is required.
Compensation
Annual Expected Pay Range: $95,000 $160,000 USD
