Finished Trades, Union Estimator

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Finished Trades, Union Estimator who can hit the ground running — not only in estimating but also in providing hands-on project management support. This role requires someone with sharp analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Your work will directly shape our project and bid strategies, ensuring competitive, accurate estimates that open the door to new business opportunities while keeping existing projects on track.

Responsibilities

  • Attend bid meetings, walk-throughs, and scope review sessions; develop and execute comprehensive bid strategies.
  • Prepare thorough and timely cost analyses, budgets, and lump-sum bids.
  • Analyze project proposals, drawings, and specifications to identify scope, clarify details, and ensure accuracy.
  • Gather, update, and review historical cost data and market pricing trends to refine estimates.
  • Produce detailed quantity take-offs and accurate pricing, using company software and digital tools.
  • Provide insight and review on estimates prepared by others; highlight risks, omissions, or scope gaps.
  • Compile complete estimate/bid packages, including clarifications, qualifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure smooth handoff from estimate to execution.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of relevant estimating and/or project management experience in finished trades (union environment preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of labor, material costs, and market pricing for union construction work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software (e.g., Building Connected, Excel).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong understanding of conceptual and detailed estimating.
  • Ability to develop and maintain unit pricing databases.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • High energy, resourcefulness, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Proven ability to meet critical deadlines in a high-volume bid environment (75+ proposals per month).
