Position Overview

The Project Engineer – Tooling will be responsible for managing the design, development, validation, and implementation of new and modified tooling to support product development and manufacturing. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams and both domestic and overseas toolmakers to ensure tools are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification. The role involves frequent supplier engagement, tool trials, and real-time issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

· Tooling Project Management

o Lead tooling projects from concept through production release.

o Develop project timelines, track milestones, and ensure adherence to budget and quality standards.

· Tooling Design & Development

o Review and approve tool designs for manufacturability, durability, and compliance with product requirements.

o Collaborate with both domestic and overseas tool manufacturers on tool build and design optimization.

o Ensure material selection and finishing processes meet performance and durability requirements.

· Validation & Testing

o Attend tooling trials and validations at supplier sites (domestic and overseas) as needed.

o Conduct tool qualification runs, provide feedback, and address issues in real-time with vendors.

o Analyze mold flow and simulation results, and drive corrective actions where needed.

· Supplier Engagement

o Build strong working relationships with both domestic and overseas tooling suppliers.

o Monitor tool build progress, conduct on-site reviews, and ensure timely delivery.

o Resolve technical and quality issues directly with vendors in real time.

· Continuous Improvement

o Drive cost reduction, lead-time reduction, and tool-life extension initiatives.

o Implement best practices in tooling standards, preventive maintenance, and sustainable manufacturing (energy-efficient cooling, reduced scrap).

· Cross-functional Collaboration

o Partner with Design Engineering to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

o Work with Quality and Operations to establish control plans for new tooling.

o Support production ramp-up by addressing tooling and process issues.

Qualifications

· Associate/bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or tool and Die making.

· 5-7 years of experience in tooling, injection molding, die-casting, or related manufacturing.

· Strong knowledge of plastics, metals, and finishing processes.

· Demonstrated ability to work with domestic and overseas tooling vendors.

· Hands-on experience attending tooling trials and resolving issues in real time.

· Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent) and mold flow analysis software.

· Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and material properties.

· Ability to travel internationally and domestically as project needs require.

Preferred Skills

· Experience with injection molding and multi-cavity mold design.

· Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

· Familiarity with ERP systems and project management tools.

· Exposure to sustainable tooling practices and cost optimization.

· Hands on experience in handling tools, molds and molding machineries.
