Aluminum Die Casting Project Engineer

Pay: $75,000.00-$100,000.00 per year

Aluminum Die Casting Project Engineer Description of Duties:

Execute Die & Quality Engineering Specialty:

  • Lead and manage the procurement of high-pressure casting dies and quality confirmation equipment including: CMM fixtures and programming, Manual leak test fixtures, and gauges required to confirm product quality. Goal is to achieve on-time delivery to achieve trial schedules
  • Study and gain expertise in understanding the casting condition settings for specific product models; adjust machine settings and seek engineering controls for inputs to match a desired output condition for each casting parameter. Standardize condition settings and control methods through Operation Drawings.
  • Lead root cause & countermeasure activity for unique defects. Communicate frequently with other departments for information share. Visit manufacturing plants (Kentucky, West Virginia, & Alabama) during major trial activity and countermeasure fix effectiveness confirmation
  • Output of this specialty is to achieve quality KPI; and prove-out through production preparation trials to SOP timing

Execute Equipment & Installation Specialty:

  • Lead and manage the procurement of process equipment (New production lines or modified lines) from Japan and local US sources; needed to process casting parts on a production line; Casting Auxiliary equipment, Finishing, Heat Treat, and Palletizer Equipment. Goal is to achieve on-time delivery for installation timing to achieve trial schedules.
  • Identify local contractors (Primary and subs) to modify equipment or build new process equipment lines. Manage installation with daily safety meetings, setting work targets for each day with the general contractor, managing progress each day to towards major milestones; ex: Power-On, Machine motion checks, etc.
  • Schedule vendor-provided specialists to confirm equipment on-site (ex; Robot Teaching, Machine programming checks and running in manual and continuous)
  • Manage equipment trials; develop punchlists to countermeasure safety issues, and continuous and manual running conditions
  • Output of this specialty is to achieve productivity KPI; and prove-out through production preparation trials to SOP timing

Upward Potential to Manage Projects

  • Projects include pre-production preparation of company casting products such as aluminum cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and transmission cases.
  • Project scope can span 12-24mo and includes planning / budget development, equipment / die procurement, equipment installation, and casting trials leading to SOP.
  • Project budgets typically range from $5~$45M
  • Lead / Manage Team Members
  • Lead a project group during the pre-production phase of a project. This includes scheduling meetings, reviewing materials and gaining consensus.

Aluminum Die Casting Project Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (or above) in Engineering or 4+ years equivalent professional experience in Automotive/Manufacturing
  • 1+ years of Production Preparation and/or Manufacturing in Casting for Powertrain.
  • 1+ years of major model change experience in Casting process (equipment, fixtures, tooling, transfers) & impact to part quality / manufacturability
  • 1+ years of experience as Casting project leader with resp. for a working group including job responsibility coordination and overall project milestone management

Aluminum Die Casting Project Engineer Additional Desired:

  • 3+ years of Casting or Metals related manufacturing engineering experience
  • 1+ years High Pressure Die Casting Experience
  • 1+ years direct working experience with NC machining
  • 1+ year working knowledge with Fanuc Robot including system integration and troubleshooting
  • 1+ year working knowledge with Toyopuc PLC including system integration and troubleshooting
  • 1+ years working knowledge with 2D / 3D CAD systems for equip layout and part/die modeling applications
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Creo or other 2D/3D programs
  • Proficient with programming / troubleshooting industrial PLC platforms
  • Experienced with preparing documentation, presenting / gaining approval for capital projects and cost justification proposals.
