Job Opportunity: Project Engineer at Leprino Foods

Leprino Foods is seeking a Project Engineer for our state-of-the-art 600+ person cheese and whey manufacturing facility in Lubbock, TX. We pride ourselves on our vision to be the world's best, which drives us to work harder, invest more, and innovate continually.

Leprino broke ground on this $1 billion facility in summer 2022. The plant is scheduled to become operational in 2025 (Phase 1) and fully operational by 2026 (Phase 2).

Role Summary

The Project Engineer supports the conception and completion of capital projects, including development, design, purchase, construction, and start-up, ensuring adherence to budget, production needs, and governmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate projects to ensure timely completion within budget, forecast paybacks, and meet expected outcomes.
  • Schedule all project phases, minimizing impact on production and ensuring compliance with regulations (OSHA, FDA, building codes, etc.).
  • Prepare and implement Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) by collaborating with production management and external sources.
  • Develop specifications, drawings, layouts, and obtain quotes for cost analysis and scheduling.
  • Supervise contractors and coordinate with consulting services.
  • Identify and lead improvements to utility, process, or energy systems to enhance efficiency or reduce costs.
  • Lead process and equipment upgrades, modifications, and improvements based on production needs.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to plant personnel.
  • Offer technical and engineering support to improve productivity and reduce costs.
  • Inspect and validate work quality, efficiency, compliance, and contractor productivity.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • At least 3 years of experience in equipment reliability or plant maintenance; additional education may substitute for experience.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in dairy or cheese manufacturing.
    • Previous engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
