Job Purpose
The Solar Project Developer III will lead and manage complex community solar, distributed (DG), and solar + storage project development efforts throughout the U.S. This senior-level role carries broad responsibility for driving projects through interconnection, permitting, surveying, offtake structuring, and financial modeling phases, while also mentoring junior developers.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex development efforts for assigned projects, managing all phases of solar and storage development with minimal oversight.
- Own project development across land use, permitting, interconnection, surveying, offtake structuring, and financial modeling.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, mentoring junior developers and supporting their professional growth.
- Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, legal, procurement, project finance, and deployment) to ensure seamless execution.
- Oversee project milestones and deliverables, maintaining timelines and budgets in scheduling and ERP platforms.
- Support negotiations for leases, LOIs, PPAs, and other long-term agreements, providing strategic input on complex transactions.
- Manage external vendors and consultants to deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Perform due diligence and advanced financial analysis for opportunities in active and emerging markets.
- Identify and mitigate risks while driving opportunities for project success.
- Contribute to global process improvements, market expansion strategies, and represent the company in key industry forums.
Qualifications
- 6-8 years of renewable energy development experience, preferably within distributed and community solar.
- Subject matter expertise in community solar, DG solar + storage, and net metering development, including financial incentive structures.
- Experience in BESS development; FTM DG BESS development experience.
- Proven track record of successfully advancing renewable energy projects from origination through NTP/COD.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and solve complex problems.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required; advanced degree.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience leading cross-functional collaboration and mentoring.
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage workload independently.
- Proficiency with MS Office, CRMs, ERP systems, and shared folder drives.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
