Duties Description Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Information Technology 1, SG-31, within the NYS ITS DOH Dedicated Support Product Development Team, the Project Coordinator (PowerBuilder Developer/Modernization Specialist), SG-NS, will be crucial in transitioning business applications built in PowerBuilder to modern technologies and may also perform emergency maintenance and enhancements to meet critical needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong PowerBuilder development skills, a solid understanding of software modernization strategies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with other developers and stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the evolution of a critical application and learn new technologies. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following: • Conduct application modernization. • Participate in the planning and execution of application modernization efforts. • Analyze existing PowerBuilder code to identify areas for improvement and modernization. • Contribute to the design and development of new application components using modern technologies (e.g., .NET, Java, Web APIs, Cloud Services). • Assist in the migration of data and functionality from PowerBuilder to new platforms. • Evaluate and recommend modernization tools and techniques. • Maintain, troubleshoot, and patch existing PowerBuilder applications. • Collaboration & communication. • Work closely with information security, business analysts, project managers, and other developers to understand requirements and deliver solutions. • Participate in team meetings and provide regular updates on progress. • Document code, technical designs, and migration processes. • Testing & quality assurance. • Develop and execute unit tests and integration tests. • Participate in system testing and user acceptance testing. • Identify and resolve defects. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. • Four + years of experience in PowerBuilder development. • Strong knowledge of PowerBuilder language, and related technologies. • Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL). • Understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall). • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The following degrees may substitute for the general experience as indicated: - A master's degree in computer science or a related field will substitute for one year of experience (PowerBuilder development). - A Doctorate in computer science or related field will substitute for an additional year of experience (PowerBuilder development). Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with application modernization projects. • Knowledge of modern development technologies (e.g., .NET, Java, Web APIs, Cloud Services). • Experience with code migration tools. • Familiarity with DevOps practices. • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
