Job Description :

The Programs Associate (PA) has duties related to student and volunteer support. As one of the first points of contact for prospective and returning students and volunteers, they are ambassadors of our school. The Programs Associate reports to the Programs and Partner Manager and works closely with other team members.

This is a 30 hour/week, non-exempt position. The candidate must have professional working proficiency in both English and French. Proficiency in additional languages besides these two is a plus (Amharic, Arabic, Spanish, etc.).

Schedule: The typical schedule is in-person, Monday-Thursday. Must be able to regularly (e.g. once a week and as needed) work a weekday evening class shift, and assist with additional evening and weekend coverage as needed. The WEC office is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30am - 9pm during class terms and 9:30am - 7pm when class is not in session.

Preferred Start Date: September 8, 2025.

Compensation: $23.00/hour

Benefits: WEC covers 70% of employee health and dental insurance premiums for employees working 30+ hours a week. All employees have the option to enroll in a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with an employer match of up to 3%. WEC budgets some money for employee professional development (i.e. conferences, workshops) each year. Employees may request funding for events or courses that facilitate professional development.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

Program Support:

  • Update and maintain student enrollment information using Google Sheets
  • Conduct scholarship program onboarding and screening calls in English and French
  • Conduct follow up with students ( in relation to outstanding balances, attendance, etc.) and track outcomes
  • Assist with preparation for and provide day-of event support at WEC and community events, including student orientation and graduation, community socials, DC-area festivals, and other appropriate venues
  • Design and update visually engaging promotional materials (social media posts, flyers, brochures, etc.)
  • Occasionally teach a class when a volunteer has a last minute absence

Volunteer and student support:

  • Respond to inquiries from current and prospective students and volunteers via email, phone, social media, WhatsApp, and in-person, including during fast-paced times before and after classes
  • Lead student orientation presentation in French
  • Build and maintain relationships with WEC community members, including through the management of the French language affinity group in WhatsApp
  • Handle confidential information securely
  • Answer technology questions over email and Zoom, on topics including Zoom, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Pearson's electronic textbook and MyEnglishLab curriculum

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional working proficiency in both English and French.
  • Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, especially Google Suite
  • Ability to cover evening class shifts once a week and as needed (evening classes end at 9 pm), as well as work some occasional weekend days for special events
  • Intercultural competence

Desired Qualifications:

  • Interest in a career in the education or nonprofit fields
  • Experience with Canva, MailChimp, and/or WordPress preferred
  • Experience interacting with English language learners
  • Certificate or degree in education, TESOL, or related field is a plus
  • Teaching experience (paid or volunteer) is a plus
  • Proficiency in an additional language (beyond the required languages) is a plus
