SUMMARY Provide prevention services to Native American TANF Families with a focus on assisting the family unit with obtaining self-sufficiency. Duties may include a combination of the following: eligibility verification, referrals to supportive services and activities, classroom instruction for employer services, and mentoring. Program Specialist are responsible for developing, scheduling, implementing and evaluating prevention activities in a specific program area, such as higher education, culture, life enrichment, wellness, and special events for a wide variety of age groups and special populations. Monitor activity expenditures and prepare related reports; publicize activities through a wide variety of promotional media or brochures, weekly newsletters and keep records of all activities and events. Must be professional and energetic with good public relation skills to interact with children, parents, peers, and the public, keep community members informed about the various activities provided. Facilitate access to training, education, employment and prevention services. Ensure that case documentation meets regulatory guidelines. Will be involved in the scheduling and planning of trainings and events for youth work experience activities. This individual will provide administrative support services to Native American Youth. DUTIES AND RESPONISBILITIES Although other duties may be assigned, the essential duties include the following: Program Specialist I
  • Verify eligibility for program services
  • Conduct intakes
  • Develop and facilitate activities targeted towards at risk native youth and adults
  • Monitor progress during participation in appropriate activities
  • Implement and develop service plans for at risk service population
  • Assist people in working with other community and social service organizations by serving as an advocate
  • Maintains personal and professional boundaries and maintains strict confidentiality in adhering to TANF requirements
  • Ensure case record documentation is current, accurate, thorough, and compliant with established policies and procedures
  • Conduct community presentations on program activities and services available
  • Ensure excellent customer service and good public relations
  • Data Entry
  • Perform all additional duties as assigned/needed
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Level I: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Related work experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills, with experience using word processing, data entry and spreadsheet software programs
  • Familiarity with the communities being served, with knowledge and understanding of local needs and resources

REQUIRED
  • CPR & First Aid Certification
  • Riverside county Food handler's certification
  • All applicants are required to complete the pre-screen Background Clearance and Drug Test
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and frequently required to walk; use hands and arms. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time performing administrative duties. Some minor lifting may be required (up to 20-25 pounds).
