Organization

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting that enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low-income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness. Currently, WSFSSH owns and operates nearly 2,400 units across 29 buildings in Manhattan and the Bronx.

The Claremont is a model supportive housing program located in the Bronx. It has 90 supportive housing units for persons aged 50 and older, most of whom have experienced homelessness and have serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder. In addition, there are 24 units of affordable family housing.

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Managing Director of Congregate Care, the Claremont Director provides leadership and is responsible for establishing and maintaining a supportive housing community. The Director works closely with the Claremont Clinical Coordinator/Associate Director to support staff and meet community needs. Responsibilities include ensuring smooth and safe building operations, staff supervision, managing the property within budget, overseeing facility maintenance, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with social services to support residents in maintaining housing stability.

Supervision:

  • Supervises maintenance, administrative, and front desk staff (24/7)
  • Works with the Clinical Coordinator/Associate Director for clinical supervision of social services and program staff
  • Collaborates with HR for staff recruitment and hiring
  • Establishes and maintains an interdisciplinary team
  • Develops and monitors staff training

Services to Residents:

  • Ensures quality of services including food service, 24/7 front desk, and building maintenance
  • Coordinates outreach, admissions, and discharges with the Clinical Coordinator/Associate Director
  • Responds to grievances and resolves issues collaboratively
  • Provides crisis intervention and shares on-call responsibilities
  • Protects residents' rights at all times

Property Management:

  • Oversees equipment, supplies, repairs, and maintenance in consultation with Facilities Department
  • Ensures a safe, compliant, and well-maintained environment
  • Conducts inspections, oversees repairs, and maintains records

Budget:

  • Contributes to annual operating budgets
  • Operates within budget, manages rent collection, petty cash, and maintains tenant records

Social Service Collaboration:

  • Acts as liaison with Social Services Department
  • Refers residents to social services, collaborates on lease-ups, and handles grievances
  • Initiates collection actions and holdover proceedings as needed

Compliance:

  • Ensures adherence to WSFSSH standards and all relevant regulations, including NYC agencies and housing programs
  • Prepares and submits required reports
  • Maintains fire safety and conducts routine drills and inspections

Other Responsibilities:

  • Works as part of a team, reviews policies, and participates in planning and evaluation
  • Attends training and conferences
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in residential settings, property management, or related fields, including LIHTC and Section 8
  • Experience working with individuals with histories of homelessness, mental illness, addiction, or chronic conditions
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, management, and computer skills (Excel, Word, databases)
  • Preferred: 2+ years residential experience, bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Must be at least 21 years old
