Job Title Program Leader I - Urban & Community Forestry Agency Texas A&M Forest Service Department Forest Systems Department Proposed Minimum Salary $6,300.00 monthly Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Texas A&M Forest Service is seeking a highly motivated team member who has passion for urban and community forestry. This individual will be part of an integrated team that works to deliver technical assistance to support the agency mission of assuring the state's trees, forests and related natural resources are protected and sustained. General Summary: This position serves as leader of the Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) Urban and Community Forestry (U&CF) program, responsible for administration and delivery of state and national U&CF programs in Texas. The position supports state and local U&CF advocacy and working groups dedicated to improving the community forests of Texas, monitors and reports program accomplishments to state and federal authorities and works internally to improve systems and procedures for accomplishing activities. The Program Leader is responsible for recommending, designing and executing projects and programs that meet state and federal objective for U&CF and provided direct supervision to field staff to execute goals and objectives consistent with the Texas Forest Action Plan. This position directs resources and personnel to achieve program and agency objectives, develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners, manages fiscal, budgeting, reporting and administrative responsibilities and ensures all administrative procedures pertaining to hiring/employment/termination are followed. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Forestry or Urban Forestry from an SAF accredited university or other closely related natural resource field. - Minimum of four (4) years' experience or equivalent in delivery of TAMFS urban forestry or other field program. - Ability to multi-task, work effectively with minimal supervision and to work cooperatively with internal and external partners. - Must have or obtain a Texas Driver's license within 30 days of employment and have a driving record that meets agency requirements. - Be an ISA Certified Arborist. - Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Sound judgement. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Working knowledge of database operations and a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. - Must engage in professional societies (i.e. ISA, or SMA), attend local and state meetings, provide logistical support as needed. - Must meet the Work Capacity Test Fitness Light Level of walking 1 mile in 15 minutes or less. Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in Urban Forestry. - Supervisory or team leader experience. - Have one or several of the following credentials: ISA Municipal Specialist, TRAQ, BCMA, SAF Certified Forester, NWCG 130/190, ISAT Oak Wilt and Wildfire Risk Red Qualifications. - Experience working with GIS and iTree suite of tools. - Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Work Conditions: This job may require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes. It may also require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling lifting and carrying heavy objects. Job stress can be frequent when confronted with deadlines of various projects, frequent travel, long hours and adverse weather conditions.
