General Overview:
East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key to creating economic and civic opportunities for all. We seek a dynamic, hardworking, and creative leader passionate about providing exceptional programming to children and families in the South Bronx and Northern Manhattan.
Under the supervision of the Department Head of Middle Schools, the Program Director will be responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the NYCA Cornerstone program, including developing high-quality, innovative programming for middle school, high school, and adult participants.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesProgram & Community Development:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to program staff, including evenings, Saturdays, and summer camp
- Recruit, hire, and develop staff
- Supervise staff and ensure program goals are met
- Implement participant recruitment and retention strategies
- Serve as liaison with school administration, parents, and community entities
- Conduct staff performance reviews and provide ongoing mentoring
- Facilitate team meetings and ensure quality programming
- Engage community residents and leaders through advisory boards and youth councils
- Ensure community needs are met through program assessment
- Maintain a safe environment following protocols
- Develop partnerships and create community events
Administrative:
- Track attendance and meet contractual requirements
- Respond promptly to communication
- Ensure compliance with regulations and conduct inspections
- Coordinate events and manage budgets
- Participate in agency-wide planning
Remote Engagement:
- Facilitate virtual activities and monitor engagement
- Use web platforms like Zoom and Google Classroom
- Conduct wellness checks and maintain records
Facilities:
- Ensure safety and maintenance of facilities
- Coordinate facility upgrades and address issues proactively
Summer Program:
Manage summer operations, including weekends and off-hours support.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or 5+ years youth services experience, with supervisory experience required; master's preferred
- Familiarity with Bronx communities and resources
- Experience in program design and implementation
- Supervision of staff and budget management experience
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Knowledge of youth development and education systems
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred)

Position Details
- Full-time, hours vary with program needs
- School-year hours: Monday-Friday, various shifts; some Saturdays and holidays
- Summer: Monday-Friday, with evening hours and weekends
Clearances and Trainings
- DOH and DOE clearances
- Physical and TB screening
- Fingerprint clearance and SCR
- Mandated Reporter and Health & Safety training
Work Environment
Office setting with standard equipment. Some site visits required.
Supervisory Responsibility
May supervise staff.
Travel
Local travel during work hours.
Physical Demands
Mostly sedentary; some lifting and site visits required.
