Program Description

Ana's Place is a 108-bed 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless men diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance abuse. Our comprehensive services include case management, individual and group counseling, recreational activities, and housing placement assistance. Psychiatric services are provided Monday through Friday, staffed by a psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, and licensed practical nurse.

Overall Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director for Mental Health Services, the Shelter Director for Ana's Place is responsible for the overall management of the shelter, providing leadership, guidance, coaching, and supervision to staff to ensure effective service delivery to the targeted client population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the facility, oversee program development and implementation, and ensure objectives are met, including client referrals and addressing issues in their Independent Living Plans.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Shelter Director for daily operations, staffing, and maintenance of standards.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Director to set policies for clinical programs and ensure quality care.
  • Manage personnel, including hiring, performance monitoring, disciplinary actions, and staff development.
  • Ensure procurement procedures are followed and documentation is maintained for timely payments.
  • Handle community relations, including partnerships and attending relevant meetings.
  • Meet regularly with staff to clarify roles and improve service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and staff certifications.
  • Display and observe EEO and ADA guidelines.
  • Interface with city/state agencies and prepare reports for oversight and legal purposes.
  • Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis as needed.
  • Qualifications
    • Master's degree in social work, public administration, psychology, or related human services field.
    • At least five years of experience working with mentally ill or homeless individuals, including two years in a managerial role.
    • Proven ability to manage and motivate staff, evaluate programs, and foster a team environment.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
    • Knowledge of case management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
