The Imogen Roche Foundation Inc. (IF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and mental wellness for children and teens. Through project-based learning, youth leadership, and multi-literacy approaches, our afterschool programs offer choice-based activities that center student voice and foster empathy, compassion, and personal growth.

Role Description

The Program Director is a full-time, on-site position based at a NYC public school, where IF partners with school leadership to operate a comprehensive afterschool program. The Program Director is responsible for developing, implementing, staffing, managing, and supervising daily childcare and enrichment activities for elementary students on all days that school is in session. This role also includes maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders—including school administrators, faculty and staff, parents and families, and city and state agencies such as the NYS DOH—while building a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for the children we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of program staff with varying levels of experience and expertise
  • Oversee all aspects of daily afterschool program operations at a NYC public school site
  • Build and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including school administrators, faculty, parents, families, and regulatory agencies
  • Promote program visibility within the school community and actively support enrollment growth
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families, school leadership, and Imogen Foundation staff
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment in full compliance with SACC regulations, DOE guidelines, and organizational policies
  • Provide meaningful coaching, supervision, and professional development opportunities for staff
  • Conduct regular program quality assessments and drive continuous improvement efforts
  • Design and support engaging, inclusive programming tailored to meet the evolving needs of participants
  • Model and foster a culture of compassion, kindness, and respect for all individuals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership, administrative, or program management role
  • Proven experience in program development and implementation
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles and their application in youth programs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of staff, school partners, and families
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, delegation, and follow-through
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Skilled in giving and receiving constructive feedback to support growth and performance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (G-Suite)
  • Basic knowledge of budgeting and expense tracking
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and consistently model compassion, kindness, and professionalism
