Program Coordinator

Southeastern Oklahoma State University's McNair's Scholars Program invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator of the McNair Scholars program will plan, organize, and implement student-centered programming and events related to research and scholarly activities that prepare students for graduate studies who are underrepresented in doctorate programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the recruitment of program participants, including marketing, information sessions, application submission process, application review, and notification of students selected as TRIO McNair participants, as well as collaboration with institutional partners to advance grant goals and objectives
  • Coordinate with the faculty engaged in research projects at Southeastern to ensure TRIO McNair student participation
  • Assist the Director in planning professional development seminars and summer research internships
  • Meet regularly with students to advise and provide academic counseling to participants, track academic performance, and participation in activities, and maintain advising notes
  • Design and implement workshops and individual counseling in areas such as GRE preparation, financial aid, and fellowship applications, internships, research, and graduate school exploration
  • Advise and support participants through all graduate school selection and application stages
  • Assist students with applying to professional conferences
  • Assist students in maintaining updated profiles via Career Management Services's tracking platform, Handshake
  • Chaperone participants on program-related travel (graduate visits, field trips, conferences)
  • Coordinate completion of internship, research, and graduate school applications
  • Update program database and assist with completion of reports as needed
  • Maintains relationships and networks with Southeastern faculty and staff, and professionals in the community
  • Attends events, forums, research fairs, and other events that relate to the goals and objectives of the program
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with graduate school personnel and alum
  • Tracks students after graduation to include the educational/career progress and complete required evaluation reports
  • Prepare reports for the Director and McNair Advisory Board
  • Design and maintain a social media presence for the program

Serves on committees as assigned or supported by Director. Other relevant project activities.

Safety: Employee works safely, attends safety training offered/required, and follows appropriate safety rules and regulations. In relation to level of NIMS training completed, participates in incident management preparation, and performs incident duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience

Required:

  • Master's degree or in pursuit of a master's degree in Education, a STEM field, or related field
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Strong written communication and public speaking/presentation skills
  • Organized with the ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of academic and social needs of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented college students
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with students, alums, employees, institutional leaders, and community members
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters with discretion
  • Passion for educational success and an understanding of the graduate school admissions process
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with TRIO programs
  • Prior experience working with a McNair program

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The preferred start date is October 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until filled.
