John Lewis Young Leaders Program Associate

Salary: $60,000-$65,000
Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights seeks a passionate and organized Program Associate to support the John Lewis Young Leaders (JLYL) Fellowship Program. This role is ideal for a recent graduate who's enthusiastic about human rights, social justice, and empowering young people to lead change. As the Program Associate you will assist with the day to day operations of the JLYL program and build out capacity for the program as it continues to grow. The Program Associate will work directly with the Program Manager as they manage recruitment, the application process, selection process, fellowship programming, and alumni engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Co-lead day-to-day planning, facilitation, and evaluation of the JLYL Fellowship alongside the Program Manager;
- Manage application, recruitment, and selection processes;
- Collaborate with Program Manager and Development team to create and pursue fundraising opportunities;
- Organize alumni engagement efforts and communications;
- Serve as a key support for fellows through regular check-ins and office hours;
- Plan and co-lead monthly workshops, trainings, and the annual retreat;
- Support the Program Manager with building and maintaining partnerships with universities and community groups;
- Develop a bank of resource materials and training content for fellows;
- Collaborate across departments to integrate JLYL into broader RFKHR efforts;
- Track program progress and document learnings for ongoing improvement.
- Identify and execute ways to achieve shared impact across other RFKHR programs, to mobilize RFKHR stakeholders in support of the work, and to increase the visibility of RFKHR and our work before the general public;
- All new staff will undergo an introductory period of three (3) months as a training and learning period;
- Do your part in keeping our operations running smoothly - tracking your hours and submitting timecards in a timely manner.
A successful candidate must have the following skills and experiences:
- At least 2 years of experience in education, youth programming, student organizing, event planning, and/or social justice/community organizing;
- Demonstrated experience creating and planning youth programming or experiences, such as but not limited to: volunteer experiences or service learning opportunities for college students;
- Experience engaging or partnering with HBCUs, HSIs, and/or HMSIs.
- A demonstrated passion for RFKHR's mission and demonstrated commitment to community-centered advocacy especially for college students;
- Ability to cultivate relationships with community based organizations and student advocacy groups;
- Experience leading and supporting the design of engaging workshops/training/facilitation materials;
- Ability to work and learn utilizing a CRM system (Customer Relationship Management) such as Salesforce or similar;
- Ability to crunch numbers and utilize systems such as Microsoft Excel;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and presentation software such as PowerPoint, Canva, Prezi, Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, or similar;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail and able to scope out errors, including a willingness to own and fix mistakes;
- Exceptional time management, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once;
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information;
- Innovative thinking, you're able to come up with new ideas to improve a program, willingness to voice your opinions, and a strong work ethic are essential;
- Strong sense of teamwork that builds positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and a willingness to help others;
- Believes in inclusivity when working with colleagues with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
