Overview
This position will oversee the end-to-end operation in the machine shop and support all operations within the work center. Primary functions include, but are not limited to, scheduling work orders, tracking supplies/tools, monitoring and improving production KPI's, managing timecards and attendance, perform process troubleshooting, perform training and effectiveness monitoring. In addition, this person will be required to ideate and implement process improvements within the machine shop.
This position requires an employee who can operate independently with little to no assistance for completing daily tasks. Critical thinking, quick learning, and effective communication of complex schedules to machinists are essential. The role acts as an extension of the machinists to ensure they always have what they need.
Responsibilities
- Manage machine shop personnel and processes, including scheduling, PTO, and absence adjustments.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to plan, monitor, and adjust work orders, including engineering work orders.
- Monitor and supply necessary machine shop materials and tools.
- Track the completion of work orders and engineering projects.
- Verify and improve inspection processes for quality and efficiency.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness policies and procedures.
- Support troubleshooting, inspections, and tests; collaborate with engineers and machinists to resolve issues.
- Implement process improvements with engineering support.
- Track and analyze data such as cycle times, yield, scrap rates, and change effectiveness; communicate findings to drive improvements.
- Oversee maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Develop and implement new processes to enhance KPIs.
Qualifications
- Experience troubleshooting machining equipment and non-conforming components.
- Knowledge of various metrology tools and techniques.
- Experience in a production environment, preferably in a regulated industry like medical devices or aerospace.
- Ability to adapt to schedule and priority changes.
- Strong leadership, management, delegation, planning, forecasting, and communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Train, direct, and evaluate staff.
- Organize workload and staff assignments.
- Provide instructions and review work for accuracy and policy adherence.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years relevant experience or at least 10 years of relevant quality work experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role in a technical setting.
- Experience in a regulated environment such as medical devices or aerospace.
- Experience with metrology equipment and machine shop operations preferred.
- Training per company policies, including completion of required compliance policies within specified timelines.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience with online spreadsheets like Smartsheet is preferred.

Salary Range
$38.46 to $57.69 per hour
