Worthington Steel is looking to add a Production Supervisor to our team. The Production Supervisor drives the development, training, evaluation, and work schedules of employees within your area. This role also guides the shift and department Manager in achieving daily and monthly goals in safety, quality, and production. The Production Supervisor will be responsible for expediting orders through the manufacturing process, accurate production reporting and maximizing resources while reducing scrap/rework. We are looking for highly motivated individuals with strong prioritization and organizational skills that has the ability to develop into an Operations Manager.
Responsibilities - Serve as a coach & mentor to develop employees to achieve high performance standards.
- Leads a team of skilled operators and technicians fostering a collaborative and safe work environment.
- You will partner with other facility leaders to develop strategic capital plans & objectives aligned to company business strategy.
- Assist safety manager with maintaining and implementing safe work practices, procedures + polices using various tools including Safe Works, SFMEAS, audits, 6S, TPM, near miss, property damage, injury reports, root cause investigations etc.
- You treat all people with respect, and you model personal growth and personal development
- You promote a safety and quality mindset to your team through continuous improvement of processes, polices + procedures.
- You develop trusted and valued relationships and communicate effectively so people throughout the organization fee engaged and connected to their work
- Oversees continuous operation and is accountable for final quality delivered to customers per the control plan.
- Builds and maintains operator training programs + career development to enable deep understanding of system operations. Your focus will be on continuous improvement to measure the effectiveness of our processes inside our manufacturing plant through strong data analysis, problem solving, engineering approach, and project management.
- Part of your daily mission will be to lead, coach, and train the technicians on your team filling the identified skills gap and developing the adequate technical expertise of the production team.
- Establish and monitor teams' safety, quality, cost, and output metrics while having a strong shop floor presence
- Use working knowledge of production process, machines, and materials to train and evaluate production employees and determine opportunities to make improvements where appropriate.
- Determines workforce requirements for department and assists with the hiring process
- Perform entry-level job duties on plant equipment in all departments as part of introductory training
- Improve level of equipment performance and reliability
- Make recommendations of equipment/process improvements
- Direct & prioritize production personnel in an efficient & effective manner to meet production needs. Receives and communicates needs for each shift.
- Initiate and drive projects
- Determine need / estimated cost and arrange for procurement of parts, special tools and/or equipment.
- Cross train throughout entire plant including production, maintenance, IP, scheduling, quality, EH&S
Desired Experience - Bachelors Degree in related field with 5 years prior manufacturing experience
- Strong leadership skills
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices
- A desire to lead people, projects, and work independently.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong problem solving and/or troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability in decision making, analytical thinking, time management and motivation.
- Can plan and coordinate large projects.
