Who You Are
As the Tempering Production Lead, you play a key role in coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the tempering line. You are responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of tempered glass products. A strong leader, you communicate effectively, engage your team and coworkers, and foster a collaborative work environment. You are focused, detail-oriented, and driven to complete tasks accurately and on time.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead and support daily operations of the tempering department to meet production schedules and quality standards.
- Maintain a safety-first work environment, utilizing proactive safety and ensuring all associates adhere to personal protective gear requirements and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure line cleanliness and organization through the implementation and enforcement of 5S tenets.
- Audit all stages within glass production processes, ensuring employee and machine adherence to all aspects of conformance quality.
- Monitor quality of upstream parts and materials from internal and external suppliers.
- Ascertain that all associates are actively performing and recording checks daily.
- Meet or exceed on-time delivery expectations through adherence to, and completion of, the daily production schedule.
- Perform cycle time and standard work audits, making sure associates are adhering to performance and efficiency standards. Ultimately responsible for production throughput and output goals.
- Develop associates through coaching, mentoring, and cross-training. Responsible for maintaining and executing on the departmental cross-training matrix to attain adequate personnel flexibility and coverage for all workstations.
- Employ lean tools and methodologies such as waste identification and elimination, plan-do-check-act (PDCA), root cause analysis, etc.
- Record and report out on all hourly and aggregate daily metrics for safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Responsible for maintaining the frontline management system.
- Make sure daily operator-level preventative maintenance is being accomplished, and coordinate with maintenance on other equipment needs.
- Uphold company policies around factors such as attendance and conduct, administering corrective actions when necessary.
- Initiate and engage in continuous improvement efforts.
Leadership Responsibilities:
While this role is not a formal supervisor position, the Tempering Production Lead provides essential floor-level leadership by:
- Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and plant-wide initiatives as needed.
- Contribute to cross-functional teams and improvement projects.
- Guiding and supporting team members.
- Assisting in employee training and development.
- Acting as a liaison between team members and management.
Skills You Bring
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- 1-2 plus years of prior lead experience
- Prior manufacturing experience
- Prior experience in glass preferred
- Knowledge of and ability to follow all health, safety, quality, and labor standards applying to your area of responsibility.
- Must be able to stand, twist, bend, and stoop for long periods of time.
- Able to read a tape measure and match the correct label with the correct type of glass.
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds on a regular basis.
- Must be able to work in a noisy environment.
- Must be able to work in hot or cold temperatures.
- Must be able to bend, crouch, kneel, stand, sit, lift, push, and pull repetitively and/or throughout the duration of the shift.
- Steel-toe boots required (not company-provided).
- Passing pre-employment requirements such as physical, drug screen, weight lift test, and criminal background check are condition of employment for all positions.
