The Production Control Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the production schedule to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of high-quality products. This role involves managing the flow of materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, optimizing resource utilization, and maintaining accurate production records. The Production Control Manager will collaborate closely with various departments, including production, purchasing, engineering, and sales, to achieve production targets and meet customer demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Production Planning and Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain detailed monthly, weekly & daily production schedules based on sales forecasts, customer orders, material availability, engineering maturity, and capacity planning.
- Monitor and adjust schedules to accommodate changes in demand, material availability, and production capacity.
- Prioritize production orders to meet delivery deadlines and optimize resource utilization.
- Identify potential bottlenecks and proactively implement solutions to maintain smooth production flow.
- Release work orders in SAP to support build plans
- Material Management:
- Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components.
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to optimize inventory costs and prevent shortages.
- Track material usage and reconcile discrepancies.
- Do ECO analysis & manage cut-in to minimize write-offs
- Work-in-Progress (WIP) Management:
- Monitor and control the flow of work-in-progress through the production process.
- Identify and address any delays or issues affecting WIP.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of WIP inventory.
- Do inventory move/change transactions in SAP
- Implement a daily cycle count program and reconcile differences
- Capacity Planning:
- Evaluate production capacity and identify potential constraints.
- Work with engineering and production teams to optimize equipment utilization and improve efficiency.
- Contribute to long-term capacity planning initiatives.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Communicate production schedules and any changes to relevant departments.
- Collaborate with production manager to ensure adherence to schedules and resolve production issues.
- Work closely with sales and customer service to provide accurate delivery information and address customer inquiries.
- Liaise with engineering on new product introductions and process improvements.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production control, such as on-time delivery, cycle time, and inventory levels.
- Prepare regular reports on production performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Analyze production data to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production flow.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date production records and documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications -
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- APICS CPIM certification required.
- At least 5 years of experience in production control, planning, or scheduling within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of production planning principles and techniques (e.g., MRP, Lean Manufacturing).
- Proficiency in using MRP systems, PDM systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Abilityto work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Additional Desired Qualifications -
- Experience doing production planning in a lean manufacturing environment highly desired.
- Experience with SAP Business One a plus.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions -
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, primarily in an office setting, with frequent transitions to the production floor.
- Walking, standing, and occasional stair climbing required during regular coordination with manufacturing teams and facility walkthroughs.
- Ability to lift and carry materials or documents up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Requires manual dexterity for operating a computer, typing, and reviewing printed or digital production schedules and data.
- Must have visual acuity to analyze data, interpret reports, and observe production processes.
- Frequent use of computer systems (e.g., SAP, Excel) and other planning tools for scheduling and reporting.
- Will work in a clean, climate-controlled factory and office environment with moderate noise levels.
- Flexibility to adjust working hours during high-demand periods, production changes, or deadlines.
