Job Description :

Product Design Engineer - Hybrid - NYC

Our customer is a digital health startup on a mission to transform how healthcare is delivered and experienced. Backed by $45M in Series B funding from top-tier investors, they're building cutting-edge technology that uses AI to empower clinicians, streamline patient care, and improve healthcare outcomes at scale. The team combines expertise in healthcare, machine learning, and product design to tackle some of the industry's toughest challenges, from reducing administrative burden to delivering personalized patient experiences.

Role Overview:

We're seeking a Product Design Engineer who thrives at the intersection of user experience, engineering, and healthcare innovation. In this role, you'll work from concept to implementation designing intuitive, accessible interfaces and collaborating closely with engineering, clinical, and product teams to bring them to life. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping products that are not just functional, but deeply empathetic to the needs of patients, clinicians, and care teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product managers, clinicians, and engineers to translate complex healthcare workflows into intuitive digital experiences.
  • Design and prototype user interfaces for web and mobile applications that meet accessibility and compliance standards (e.g., WCAG, HIPAA).
  • Work hands-on with front-end technologies (HTML/CSS, React, or similar) to bring designs into production.
  • Conduct usability testing, gather feedback, and iterate rapidly to improve user experience.
  • Balance aesthetic design with functional requirements in a regulated, high-stakes environment.
  • Stay informed on design trends, best practices, and emerging tools in both health tech and consumer products.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in product design or front-end engineering roles, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating UI/UX design work and implementation skills.
  • Proficiency with modern design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and front-end frameworks.
  • Understanding of responsive design, accessibility guidelines, and design systems.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, clinicians, and product leaders.
  • Bonus: experience designing for healthcare or other regulated industries.
