General Statement of Duties

Employees in this position function as clerical support for the WIC program of the Franklin County Health Department. Duties include but are not limited to answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, obtain and verify demographic and income information required in determining WIC eligibility, collect height and weight on applicants and participants, perform finger sticks to determine hemoglobin levels, provide low risk nutritional education, enter data into electronic medical record, and issue e-WIC cards and benefits to participants.

Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Substantive knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.

Substantive knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, proofreading and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and materials.

Substantive knowledge of accounting procedures, applicable mathematics and their application in the work environment.

Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.

Considerable ability to record, compile, summarize and analyze data.

Considerable ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations.

Considerable ability to analyze work situations and interpret program content in making decisions and explaining policies, regulations and programs.

Considerable ability to exercise judgment, discretion and negotiation skills in problem situations.

Ability to learn, interpret and explain policies, regulations and programs.

Ability to independently respond to inquiries and coordinate a variety of resources in acquiring and disseminating information.

May require ability to train and manage a group of employees.

Desirable Education and Experience

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bilingual candidates strongly preferred.

Required Immunizations

The following are immunizations that we require for all employees prior to the first date of employment:

Two step TST (skin test) If you have had a negative TST within the last 12 months, you must have another one completed prior to employment.

Proof of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of measles, mumps and rubella given at least 28 days apart or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease.

Hepatitis B series: Either evidence of 3 doses; signed declination form or lab evidence of immunity

Evidence of Tdap vaccine

Evidence of varicella immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of varicella given at least 28 days apart or a history of varicella or herpes zoster based on physician diagnosis or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease.

If working in the lab, must have documented proof of one dose of meningococcal vaccine.
