Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Process Excellence Leader to be based out of a regional Atkore facility (Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles) reporting to the Corporate Sr. Director of ABS. The ideal candidate will have 7 - 10 years' experience in lean manufacturing/manufacturing engineering, ideally in a business system-based company as a continuous improvement leader, black belt, or similar role.

What you'll do:

The Process Excellence Leader will act as a key change agent for fostering, promoting, and deploying continuous improvement within the Atkore Business System (ABS). The Lean Leader will be responsible for deploying Lean methodologies on the shop floor including strategy deployment, training, mentoring, coaching, and subject matter expertise. All while working closely with other functions in the plant including Customer Service, Warehousing, Production, Maintenance, Procurement, Environmental Health & Safety, Finance, Human Resources and Quality.

Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and facilitate process improvement workshops and improvement projects to drive business results across the organization utilizing Lean tools and skills.
  • Mentor, influence and develop potential lean practitioner candidates through their projects and events driving business change.
  • Drive lean daily management with the advancement and improvement of our Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Innovation.
  • Identify and address improvement opportunities and develop root cause countermeasures.
  • Develop and drive Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and continuous improvement roadmaps and action plans.
  • Engage the plant teams in setting and attaining specific goals around Lean initiatives.
  • Provide functional leadership with awareness, knowledge and guidance of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles, methodologies and tools to support achievement of business objectives.
  • Plan, coordinate, lead, and teach employee development training sessions demonstrating knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Effectively influence team decisions to manage risks and balance robust product, service, and process design with a sense of urgency.
  • Strengthen the corporate Lean team to build capability and continue to drive breakthrough performance.
  • Partner with business leaders to deploy business strategy. Facilitate talent development and process improvements.
  • What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering (MFGE or IE preferred) or other related functional areas or work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years' experience within a manufacturing operation leading lean and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrates successful multi-site responsibility for advancing Lean excellence.
  • Certified Lean Practitioner from the Lean Certification Alliance or Certified Six Sigma Green Belt strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of leading and supporting Kaizen events that eliminated waste and improved flow.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes and manufacturing technology.
  • Possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety.
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization from senior management to hourly employees.
  • Proficiency in creating and analyzing data.
  • Ability to occasionally work off shift to provide training and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives to all production shifts.
  • Ability to work both as a member of a team, a team leader or as an individual contributor.
  • Experience developing and documenting Standard Work for all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to travel 50% - 60% of the time.
  • Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Complete your Atkore Onboarding & Immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Visit the locations you support and begin building relationships with site contacts.
  • Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Manage Key Process Indicators and Targets To Improve (TTI) dashboards for Strategy Deployment Process.
  • Support productivity improvement projects in the plant and other transactional waste reduction initiatives.
  • Provide input and feedback to key leadership positions about process improvement opportunities specific to all parts of the organization.
  • Champion, Sponsor, or Facilitate process and transactional improvement Kaizens.
  • Within 12 months, you'll:

  • Identify, create, and sustain standard processes throughout the organization.
  • Partner with all functions to define process capabilities, assess gaps and develop gap closure plans.
  • Provide functional leadership with awareness, knowledge, and guidance of Lean and/or Continuous Improvement principles, methodologies and tools to support achievement of ABS business objectives.
  • Mentor, influence, and develop potential lean practitioner candidates through their projects driving business change.
  • Conduct training of Lean and Continuous Improvement principles, methodologies and tools in both an office and manufacturing floor environments.
