POSITION SUMMARY
The Process Engineer – Injection Molding will be responsible for optimizing, maintaining, and improving injection molding processes to ensure product quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires a hands-on engineer with a deep understanding of thermoplastics, tooling, and automated molding operations, along with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, document, and optimize molding processes to ensure repeatable and reliable production.
- Establish process parameters for new and existing molds, including first article runs and validations.
- Troubleshoot injection molding process issues including flash, short shots, burns, warpage, and dimensional inconsistencies.
- Monitor cycle times, scrap rates, and process capability (CPK) to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with toolmakers, maintenance, and quality teams to maintain and improve mold performance.
- Lead DOE (Design of Experiments) and root cause analysis for process improvements and defect reduction.
- Assist in mold design reviews and support new tool sourcing, sampling, and approval.
- Train operators and technicians on best practices and standard operating procedures for molding equipment.
- Support automation integration for secondary operations such as trimming, labeling, or assembly.
- Maintain and improve process documentation, including work instructions and technical reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in injection molding processes within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of scientific molding principles and process optimization techniques.
- Experience with a variety of thermoplastics and molding machines, Arburg, Milacron, Nissei, Fanuc Robots
- Familiarity with mold design, hot runner systems, and tooling maintenance.
- Proficiency in using molding process monitoring tools and software
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause problem-solving tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; capable of working cross-functionally.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; CAD experience is a plus.
