General Summary of Position

AsaSpeech Language Pathologist, you willprovideSpeech Language Pathology services to communicatively and swallowing impaired patients.Participates in educational activities and special projects.Assistsin achieving Service goals.Assistsin the maintenance of the professional image of the Service inside and outside of the hospital. Beginning to supervise students and mentor other staff level team members. Beginning participation in hospital programs/committees and other in-house professional development activities (e.g.,teaching, research).

Primary Duties:

  • Evaluates voice, speech, language, cognitive-communication, pragmaticcommunication,and swallowing abilities of assigned patients. Independent in performing bedside dysphagia evaluation/has achieved Dysphagia Evaluation Competencies.Plans and implements rehabilitative procedures for communicatively and swallowing impaired patients using sound clinical reasoning to maximize patient outcome and safety.

  • Counselspatients and familiesregardingthe individual'sSLP (Speech Language Pathologist)diagnosis andplan, andappropriately involves patients and/or families in treatment planning and refers patients to appropriate care providers or community services whenindicated. Effectively and efficiently documents and bills all clinical activityin accordance withService, Program, site,hospital,and professional practice guidelines.

  • Participates in quality improvement and peer review activities.Identifiesopportunities for process improvement and activelyparticipatesin SLP Team Meetings/Continuing Education Lecture discussions. Recommendsappropriate clinicalmaterials and equipment for Service procurement.Maintainsan accurateschedule and meets productivitytarget. Facilitates communication and problem solving among SLP staff and/or within the treatment team, including active and effective participation in team/family conferences.Keepssupervisor informedregardingprogress of assigned patients and activity surrounding pertinent professional endeavors.

  • Functions as a role model through demonstration of professional conduct and assures compliance withMedStarNRH Network and clinic policies and procedures. Takes initiative in pursuing and directing continuing education for professional growth and competency.Providestraining and education to members of multiple professional disciplines in the hospital. Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for other staff members. Participates in Student Training program via student lecture and/or secondary studentsupervision.Abides by the Code of Ethics of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • License to practice Speech-Language Pathology from the Department of Health (Washington,D.C (District of Columbia).

This position has a hiring range of $60.00 - $60.00
