Position Summary

The Principal Scientist will be responsible for leading innovation, driving clinical research, and ensuring the scientific integrity of the brand's skincare portfolio. This role involves formulation science, clinical validation, regulatory compliance, and thought leadership, requiring collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Sales, Education, Regulatory, and Quality.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD (preferred) or PharmD or MS with 5-8 years of experience in medical-grade skincare, with expertise in cosmetic chemistry, clinical study design, claims substantiation, and scientific communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Innovation Leadership & Product Development
• Lead launches, ensuring scientific credibility and brand innovation.
• Research and incorporate cutting-edge skincare technologies into new formulations.
• Collaborate with formulation chemists and CDMOs to optimize product development from concept to market.
• Reformulate products to meet global regulatory standards and manage raw material discontinuations.
• Clinical Research & Claims Substantiation
• Design, execute, and interpret clinical studies to validate product efficacy and claims.
• Partner with CROs and academic institutions for dermatology-based studies.
• Prepare study protocols, informed consent forms, case report forms, and final reports.
• Analyze clinical data with biostatisticians to support claims.
• Publish at least two manuscripts or posters annually in peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
• Scientific Communication & Thought Leadership
• Train Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and internal teams on scientific innovations.
• Present at industry conferences and review literature on competitors' products.
• Regulatory & Compliance Collaboration
• Work with Regulatory and Quality teams to ensure compliance.
• Review marketing claims for accuracy and regulatory adherence.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Business Support
• Support product launches with scientific messaging and training materials.
• Attend industry conferences and present updates to leadership.
• Mentor junior team members to foster scientific excellence.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

Qualifications & Experience

• PhD (preferred), PharmD, or MS in Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or related fields.

8-10 years in medical-grade skincare R&D, preferably in dermatology-focused brands.

• Expertise in formulation, clinical research, ingredient evaluation, and regulation.
• Strong publication record and experience with scientific data supporting skincare claims.
• Experience working with KOLs and clinical study sites.
• Excellent presentation and training skills.
• Ability to collaborate across R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Regulatory teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with clinical trial design and claims substantiation.
• Knowledge of global regulatory frameworks (FDA, EU, Asia-Pacific).
• Familiarity with IP strategy and patent filings.
• Leadership and mentorship skills.
