External applicants must be eligible to work in the US.Your RoleAt MilliporeSigma, the Principal Scientist, Process Development is a laboratory scientist position in a business-based process development and manufacturing environment. The department's primary focus is the development of synthetic and analytical platforms for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Scientists are expected to support the innovative development and execution of technical projects within the MilliporeSigma team-based environment.Essential Job FunctionsEvaluate processes with process development data and/or production data to ensure smooth process execution of production batchesAct as a team consultant for process and analytical issues during process development and productionProvide insights to management to implement new innovative technologiesOversee process transfer to the production labs and provide technical support for trouble shooting activitiesMust work well in a team environment, and possess strong written and verbal communication skillsDisplay strong scientific problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify critical issues in experimental work and to suggest possible solutionsProvide information in the project quote generation processProvide technical support for process validation and post-validation activitiesPrepare comprehensive process development reports for clients and for internal useProvide innovative and effective solutions to address technical and analytical challenges that arise during process development and cGMP manufacturingDisplay knowledge and understanding of the overall goals, implementation and application of cGMP and other relevant quality systemsDisplay strong customer-facing communication skills that instill client confidenceMentor junior scientists and other colleagues in the PAD organizationActively participate in, or lead, initiatives within PAD and the organizationProactively consider the impact of quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and safety requirements when planning project development activitiesAuthor, utilize, and train employees on written procedures, including batch records and operating proceduresWork in accordance with FDA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT and other regulatory agency guidelinesWho You AreMinimum QualificationsPhD in Organic Chemistry or other related Scientific discipline with a minimum of 2 year of experience in process chemistryMS in Chemistry or other related Scientific discipline with a minimum of 4 year of experience in process chemistryBS in Chemistry or other related Scientific discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience in process chemistryPreferred QualificationsPhD in Organic Chemistry with 10+ years of experience in industry, including process chemistry and regulatory experienceExperience in drafting proposals for new project biddingExperience supporting a commercial programExperience in handling High-Potency APIsEssential And Critical SkillsHigh level of creativity and innovation, drive to succeedSuperior organizational skills and the ability to multi-task proficientlyProven leadership and team-building skillsStrong ability to motivate colleagues and junior staffScientific literacy and ability to identify issues in written experimental records and documentationKnowledge of experimental design techniques and thermal hazard evaluation techniques in the process development fieldStrong verbal skills, including the ability to give presentations and to speak to large groupsExcellent communication skills, including the ability to give presentations and to speak to large groups. The ability to establish rapport with non-technical parts of the company as well.Proficient in use of standard office computers as well as software for laboratory work (data capture, data analysis, etc.) and statistical analysis.
