The Team

The Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) supports global health efforts through computational modeling, collaborating with WHO, UNAIDS, CDC, and other partners to develop tools and inform policy.

Your Role

We seek a Principal Scientist with expertise in AI and large language models to lead strategic initiatives, collaborate with global partners, and translate AI advances into impactful solutions for underserved populations. You will engage with academic and industry leaders, evaluate projects, and help deploy AI technologies responsibly and effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead AI strategic initiatives.
  • Identify data gaps and propose solutions.
  • Design innovative problem framings and prototypes.
  • Provide expertise and strategic advice across the foundation.
  • Build relationships with academic and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to address key challenges.
  • Communicate complex methods clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Qualifications
  • PhD in relevant fields with 10+ years of experience.
  • Recognized expertise in AI, with ties to industry or academia.
  • Proven publication record in top ML/NLP conferences.
  • Experience with AI prototyping and LLM adaptation.
  • Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
  • Ability to work across diverse projects and partners.
  • Knowledge of public health in low-income settings is a plus.
  • Additional Details

    This is a 24-month limited-term position based in Seattle, WA, with relocation support. Salary ranges from $261,700 to $405,700 USD, adjusted for location and experience. Employment is contingent upon background checks. We support diversity and inclusion in all aspects of employment.
