Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Principal Propulsion Design Engineer to join our Rocket Motor Assembly Design & Analysis team. This position will be supporting the Propulsion Systems Division at our facility located in Salt Lake City (Bacchus-Magna UT) facility.
Role Description and Responsibilities:
The Design Engineer is responsible for providing Integration Design Engineering over Rocket Motor Assembly, Igniter Design, Raceway Design, Thrust Vector Control Integration, Secondary Structures, and Mass Properties. The design engineer will also provide design engineering services on commercial rocket motor assembly projects, perform systems engineering tasks related to interface control on piece part designs, lead multi-discipline design teams, and perform peer reviews.
Prepare 3D NX models, mechanical & assembly drawings, and specifications in accordance with company standards
Support mechanical & integration design on Commercial and IR&D Projects
Prepare test & instrumentation drawings, test plans, reports, and perform tolerance analysis
Prepare trades studies and milestone review presentations
Prepare ICD, N2 Interaction matrices and Interface Summary Sheets
Prepare requirement specifications and provide verification reporting
Perform structural analysis on secondary structures bracket designs
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of a BS in classical Engineering discipline (Preferably Mechanical Engineering) or a closely related field required
BS degree with 5 years' experience, or MS degree with 3 years' experience or 1 year with a Ph.D.
Required Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledgeable and demonstrated experience with NX modeling
Systems engineering and integration experience
Structural Analysis experience
Mechanical Design and Assembly
Broad understanding of ballistics and grain design
Strong knowledge of loads and environment analysis
Experience with manufacturing processes
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Drafting and drawing preparation skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture
Additional Requirements:
Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Salary Range: $95,300 - $142,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
