Principal Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Projects A growing engineering services firm is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead client projects across a wide range of industries. This role calls for a proven leader who is exceptionally skilled in mechanical engineering and passionate about delivering flawless execution.
- Lead mechanical engineering efforts on industrial projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and client specifications.
- Design and specify custom and OEM mechanical systems including piping, HVAC, rotating equipment, pressure vessels, structural supports, and process skids.
- Oversee drawing packages, calculations, and specifications; drive design reviews and vendor coordination.
- Mentor engineers and designers, supporting technical development and quality deliverables.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (process, structural, electrical, controls, fabrication, and field service) to deliver turnkey solutions.
- Partner directly with clients to define scope, present designs, and align on technical recommendations.
- Contribute to project estimating, proposal development, and scheduling.
- Conduct field assessments, support commissioning, and lead technical reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop tools and resources to improve internal training and efficiency.
What You Bring
- BS and/or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; PE license preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial and capital project environments, with strong project prioritization, cost estimating, and user documentation skills.
- Expertise in process piping, pressure vessels, and other mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of ISO9001, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies a plus.
- Strong grasp of mechanical codes (ASME, etc.) and fabrication techniques.
- Clear communicator with strong organizational skills; able to work independently or collaboratively.
- Passion for mentoring junior engineers.
- Expectation is to work on-site in Rochester NY, with up to 25% travel.
Compensation
- Annual salary expected between $120,000 - $155,000
