The IT Principal Engineer provides direction, guidance, and definition of technology architecture to effectively support business strategy. May lead the development and implementation of various aspects of the Automation Strategy. Ensures integration of all aspects of architecture across specific domains in alignment with business strategies, objectives, and capabilities. May participate in strategic planning cycles across the enterprise. Understands what solution providers and third-party vendors offer and how they will integrate with the architecture. Researches and advocates new technologies, architectures, and systems. Manages relationships with business teams using cloud and continuously communicates with and involves key staff in the maintenance of the architecture(s). Responsible for technical architecture components that define the principles, guidelines, and standards to ensure technical decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state vision. Supports and ensures digital innovation by leveraging new technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core technology base. Supports and may coordinate discussions relative to future cloud direction. Serves as a change advocate for cloud adoption. Leads cloud computing efforts; strategizes and communicates its pros and cons objectively. Executes the executive vision for cloud and makes it a reality; may oversee the cloud adoption and governance process. Contributes to the development of a cloud strategy and coordinates adoption. Provides thought leadership on cloud strategy and architectural vision for cloud across business and technical dimensions. Builds strong relationships across all areas of the organization, specifically with functional architects in each area, to influence them towards making changes necessary for cloud. Designs, builds, facilitates, and directs cloud initiatives on multiple fronts, including the CCOE. Designs best practices for cloud system design, infrastructure integrations, application development practices and application runtime principles. Contributes to cloud governance, including guidelines, policies, and guardrails, in collaboration with Enterprise Architects and/or the ARB.
Serves as the senior technical authority for Mayo Clinic's enterprise cloud platforms, providing engineering leadership across public, private, and hybrid cloud environments. Drives platform modernization, performance optimization, and alignment with security and infrastructure standards.

QualificationsBachelor's degree with 7+ years' experience including 3 years' of demonstrated leadership experience, or Associate degree with 9 years' experience and 3 years' of demonstrated leadership experience, or HS/GED with 11 years of experience and 3 years' of demonstrated leadership experience in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic may be considered in lieu of the degree.
Hands-on experience with cloud architectures, including the architectural design and deployment of cloud solutions preferred. Ability to influence management and key executive stakeholders. Familiarity with service design and pricing in the context of cloud-based solutioning preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead and successfully execute IT projects and generate associated business value. Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype. Ability to negotiate to reach agreements on issues of strategic importance. Ability to effectively communicate with and present to executive stakeholders (e.g., IT Leadership and IT Exec).
