We are seeking a visionary, adaptable, and results-oriented Principal IT Architect for our US Electric Domain within our Architecture team. This position can be located in Brooklyn, NY, Waltham, MA, Hicksville, NY, or Syracuse, NY. Candidates may also reside in Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Maine. Job Purpose
The Principal Architect will lead the creation of architectural work products (artefacts) and perform various analyses. These work products, including designs, blueprints, standards, and decision notices, are essential for communicating technology strategy across the IT community.
What you'll do
As a Principal IT Domain Architect, you will shape the architecture of our technology solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals. You will lead the design and implementation of complex solutions, driving innovation and excellence. Your responsibilities include:
- Aligning IT strategies with business objectives and identifying capability gaps and technology recommendations.
- Providing technical leadership for designing complex enterprise and domain-scale systems to meet business needs and compliance requirements.
- Defining roadmaps from current to future states and developing transition plans.
- Leading the design and implementation of scalable, secure solutions.
- Creating solution visions and conceptual architectures based on high-level business requirements.
- Developing integration patterns for efficient data and solution delivery.
- Ensuring security, scalability, and reliability are integral from the start.
- Maintaining broad knowledge of business applications within the electric domain.
- Providing subject matter expertise on electric domain applications.
- Establishing and enforcing architecture principles, guidelines, and standards.
- Conducting architecture reviews and ensuring best practices adherence.
Key Deliverables
- Solution vision, architecture diagrams, and documentation.
- Current and target state architectural definitions aligned with program scope.
- Technology roadmaps illustrating transition states over the lifecycle.
- Application rationalization roadmap.
Supervisory/Interpersonal Experience Required
You should demonstrate an understanding of designing, building, testing, operating, and maintaining complex global systems using enterprise infrastructure and applications, on time and within budget. Key qualities include:
- Ability to see both the big picture and short-term specifics.
- Leadership experience dealing with diverse cultures, time zones, and communication challenges.
- Extensive experience leading large-scale, complex projects, including emerging architectures like APIs, IoT, and Digital Transformation.
- Deep understanding of multiple business processes across domains such as manufacturing, customer service, logistics, finance, and procurement.
- Expertise in software development lifecycle and design patterns.
- Design expertise in performance, security, availability, operations, and monitoring.
- Ability to identify and communicate organizational risks.
- Knowledge of industry technologies and trends, including regulatory requirements like SOX, PCI, ITIL, RUP.
- Broad experience with packaged applications and technologies relevant to specific domains.
- Certifications or experience with TOGAF, Zachman, FEAF, DODAF, COBIT, ITIL are a plus.
- Influencing skills to achieve results, along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years designing systems for large enterprises.
- 7+ years of hands-on technology development or implementation experience.
- Strong skills in vendor product selection, software analysis, business analytics, REST interfaces, and modern technologies like Containers and Microservices.
- Experience with architectural frameworks such as TOGAF and tools like Troux, Alfabet, or Sparx.
- Experience supporting Agile and digital product lifecycles.
- Experience developing solutions with custom and COTS applications.
- Experience with utility-specific technologies, such as Asset Management, Geospatial Systems, and control systems like ADMS, EMS, SCADA, OMS, DERMS, is a plus.

Salary
Downstate NY: $179,000 - $210,000/year
Massachusetts: $167,000 - $196,000/year
Upstate NY: $149,000 - $175,000/year
