Position Summary

As Principal Engineer , you will lead the technical development of our next-generation smart incontinence detection platform. This role requires expertise in embedded systems, wireless IoT design, and medical device development , with a strong focus on regulatory-aware innovation . You'll shape product architecture, oversee hardware and firmware integration, and scale a reliable system for real-world senior care environments.

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a proven product that's improving lives—while guiding its continued evolution into a nationwide platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and system-level design for Wicked Smart Pad hardware, firmware, and cloud interfaces.
• Oversee and refine low-power sensing, BLE communication, and alert delivery architecture.
• Own the product lifecycle from prototype to production to post-market improvements, within a Class II, 510(k)-exempt framework.
• Collaborate with product, clinical, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with ISO 13485, 14971, and applicable FDA guidance (even though formal 510(k) not required).
• Conduct and review risk analyses (FMEA), verification & validation (V&V), and design documentation.
• Support contract manufacturers and external engineering partners to ensure quality, cost, and reliability targets are met.
• Drive the integration of future product features.
• Provide mentorship to internal engineers and consultants across hardware, firmware, and cloud development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded systems and IoT product development.
• Experience launching connected medical devices—ideally battery-powered, low-power wireless systems (BLE, LoRa, etc.).
• Familiarity with wireless protocols (BLE, Wi-Fi, cellular) and OTA update infrastructure.
• Knowledge of quality systems (ISO 13485), risk management (ISO 14971), and Class II medical device processes.
• Experience integrating with cloud platforms (AWS, Firebase, or similar) and mobile applications.
• Clear communication and leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.

Available on-site at our headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky.

Salary: $120-$150k
