Job Description

Our Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) portfolio is a collection of consumer-first brands supported by industry leaders. When you join our team, you'll work across brands like Peacock, NOW, Fandango, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and TV Everywhere, powering streaming in over 70 countries. The Peacock team is seeking a Principal Engineer in Global Streaming Technology. You will lead technical development within the VOD team, solving complex problems, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across teams. Your focus will be on ensuring high-quality backend systems that deliver metadata and video content to millions.

The VOD Engineering team develops services using cutting-edge technology and high-visibility applications. We seek a dynamic, accountable team player passionate about technology and serving a large user base.

You will guide quality assurance efforts, ensuring high standards through automation, manual testing, and comprehensive workflows. Your role involves building end-to-end testing strategies for all platform verticals.

What the team does

  • Builds E2E video on demand solutions
  • Manages automated media pipelines for streaming platforms like Peacock
  • Troubleshoots VOD pipeline issues
  • Configures encoding for various platforms and devices
  • Researches new media technologies and conducts POCs
  • Collaborates with operations and client teams to improve video delivery

Responsibilities

  • Define system architecture and high-level technical decisions
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and scalability tools like Kubernetes/ISTIO
  • Hands-on experience with front-end tech (HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind CSS, React, Angular, Typescript)
  • Proficiency with Go and related toolchains
  • Design and develop media and metadata processing services
  • Write, test, and maintain complex software applications
  • Ensure system resiliency, reliability, and observability
  • Create visual infrastructure diagrams and media workflow documentation
  • Translate requirements into test cases for manual and automated testing
  • Drive technological innovation and research new methodologies
  • Lead code reviews and uphold high code standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • At least 10 years of experience in engineering and software architecture
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, JavaScript
  • Knowledge of SQL and noSQL databases
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Understanding of video workflows, codecs, DRM, encoding, packaging (CMAF, HEVC, UHD, HDR, ABR, HLS, Dash, SSAI)
  • Ownership and commitment to quality
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

This position offers benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and discounts. Salary range: $180,000 - $230,000 (bonus and incentives eligible).
