Prevention Specialist

The incumbent of this position is responsible for serving as the primary source for technical assistance support, related to substance use prevention, for community coalitions to facilitate the development of community coalitions capable of making changes in substance use patterns in their community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the point of contact for members of community-based coalitions, teams, and task forces.
  • Providing information to coalitions about substance use prevention programs and resources.
  • Offering technical assistance and training resources to the coalitions.
  • Being responsive to requests for prevention services and information.
  • Assisting with the creation of a yearly community needs assessment.
  • Contributing to the development and updating of the draft and final Strategic Work Plan.
  • Assisting with planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Strategic Work Plan strategies.
  • Participating in the Statewide Prevention Training and Resource Network.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly progress reports.
  • Demonstrating interest in long term and short term goals and objectives of the company.
  • Other duties as assigned by Project Coordinator, Program Director, and/or Executive team member.

Experience and/or education qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a closely related field; OR
  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a closely related field, who has at least one (1) year professional experience in a social service agency; OR
  • Graduate from an accredited college with an Associate's Degree education, public health, psychology, community development, public administration, or a closely related field, who has at least two (2) years of professional experience in a social service agency.
  • 75% FTE Staff: Obtain, at a minimum, the Missouri Substance Abuse Prevention Associate (MSAPA) credential through the Missouri Substance Abuse Professional Credentialing Board within six (6) months of hire.
  • 75% FTE Staff: Attend the Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) within nine (9) months of hire.
