Are you interested in playing a role in supporting faculty and staff as they prepare research, instructional, and public service proposals for funding? Pre-award specialists are a critical part of the Office of Research and Projects (ORP) team in the Graduate School at SIUE. The Office of Research and Projects serves as the central location at SIUE through which grant and contract proposals are prepared and submitted. What You Will Do The Grants Pre-Award Specialist will join a pre-award team in providing exceptional service to faculty and staff in identifying external funding opportunities, building and facilitating proposal preparation teams, reading and interpreting funding announcements, developing project budgets, providing oversight to assigned internal programs and ensuring compliance with funding agency and SIUE requirements. This position also offers the opportunity to exercise skills in grant writing and preparation and connecting researchers with funding opportunities. This position exercises discretion and independent judgment in supporting faculty/staff in identifying external funding sources, initiating the development of and providing guidance in the collaborative efforts of interdisciplinary teams, supporting the development of quality proposals, ensuring compliance with funding agency and university guidelines and documenting the completeness of all proposals prior to submission in the appropriate portal. The position conducts public-facing professional development and internal funding program outreach. Additionally, the position assists the Associate Dean and Director of Grant Development in maintaining requisite databases, the ORP website, creating ORP reports in the interest of increasing the number and quality of submissions and awards. The successful applicant must function well in a high work volume environment requiring prioritizing and meeting deadlines, must take initiative, exercising independent judgment and discretion, must be detail oriented, and must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Position may include grant writing support in relevant instances. FLSA: Non-Exempt Open until filled. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Knowledge of or willingness to learn federal, state and funding agency requirements applicable to the administration of grants and contracts. Knowledge of or willingness to learn University policies and procedures Ability to use computers, electronic management and learn new software systems, pre-existing knowledge of Kuali Research and Kuali Build software a plus Experience with Microsoft Office suite programs including Teams, Outlook, and Word Effective communication skills, oral and written, including skills in writing for various audiences that will include sponsors and a broader public. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community Capacity to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects Ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions using various technology (e.g. Excel, Power BI, Access.)
