Description of Work:

Research performed in the McAllister Heart Institute at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, to study the basic mechanisms of cardiac biology and disease. Our research is supported by extramural funds from NIH and AHA. We employ a combination of state-of-the-art molecular and cellular techniques to complement studies in animal models of cardiac disease. The successful candidate will become an integral part of our dynamic team of scientists, with the opportunity not only to develop their own projects but also to actively contribute to numerous exciting ongoing research endeavors within the labs. Education and Experience:

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a solid background in genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology. A Ph.D. degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Experience working with animal models is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiac biology and disease.
  • Perform advanced molecular biology techniques such as cloning, CRISPR-mediated genome editing, RNA-seq, and single-cell approaches.
  • Manage and analyze data from animal models of cardiac disease (e.g., transgenic/knockout mice).
  • Collaborate with other lab members and contribute expertise to ongoing projects across the group.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and prepare data for publication, presentations, and grant reports.
  • Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and institute seminars to foster a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.
  • Contribute to mentoring and training graduate students, undergraduate researchers, or technicians as appropriate.
  • Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong record of productivity as demonstrated by publications or equivalent research outputs.
  • Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques; experience with animal models of cardiac disease is desirable.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-based research environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present research findings effectively.
