Job Description :

Rangam is seeking candidates for a Direct Hire role as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Inflammation & Immunology with our client, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies.

Seeking candidates in Cambridge, MA, or willing to relocate.

Postdoctoral Fellow, Inflammation and Fibrosis

Use Your Power for Purpose

  • At client's, our purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that transform patients' lives. Central to this mission is our Research and Development team, which strives to convert advanced science and cutting-edge technologies into impactful therapies and vaccines.
  • Whether you are engaged in discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy, or supporting clinical trials, your role is crucial.
  • You will leverage innovative design and process development capabilities to expedite the delivery of top-tier medicines to patients globally.

What You Will Achieve

  • The Myeloid Cell and Tissue Repair group within the Inflammation and Immunology Research Unit at Cambridge, MA is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D.-level scientist to join our Discovery group as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
  • This role will advance therapeutic innovation through the exploration of macrophage biology in inflammation and fibrotic disease pathophysiology.
  • The postdoctoral research project aims to investigate the functional and molecular identity of efferocytic macrophages in injury, inflammation, and fibrosis. This includes determining how apoptotic cargo and environmental cues shape macrophage phagocytic behavior and evaluating approaches to redirect efferocytosis for therapeutic benefit.
  • The project will integrate state-of-the-art techniques including multiplex analysis, imaging, flow cytometry, omics profiling, and gene-editing technologies.
  • The ideal candidate should have solid training in immunology and cell biology with computational proficiency.
  • The Postdoctoral Fellow will gain expertise in myeloid cell biology, work collaboratively across client's multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to high-impact publications.
  • By the end of the program, the postdoctoral fellow will be skilled in experimental design, complex data analysis, and effective science communication.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct research and development activities to support the discovery of new therapies.
  • Contribute intellectually and at the bench to the design and analysis of studies.
  • Independently interpret and analyze data to communicate findings to mentor, making decisions using technical knowledge under supervision.
  • Develop and apply complex in vitro assays, including macrophage functional assays and co-culture assays.
  • Run multiparametric assays including high content imaging with immunofluorescence, high parameter flow cytometry, multiplex biochemical assays and transcriptomics.
  • Present research work at internal and external meetings and publish in high-impact journals.
  • Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are carried out according to scientific and ethical standards.
  • Build team skills and a culture of scientific excellence and continuous learning.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements):

  • A Ph.D. in immunology or cell biology.
  • No more than 2 years of post-degree experience.
  • At least 1 first-author scientific research article publication in high-quality specialty or general readership journals.
  • Demonstrated experience in diverse molecular and biochemical laboratory techniques applied to in vitro cell characterization at molecular and genetic levels (fixed/live cell imaging, ELISA and flow cytometry, transcriptome/RNA-seq).
  • Knowledge and application of computational analysis and coding pipelines (e.g., R Studio, Python).
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, team oriented, ability to multitask with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to make a minimum 2-year commitment.

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements):

  • Experience in complex culture/co-culture systems of human primary cells, including immune (myeloid) cell isolation and iPSC culture.
  • Experience in in vitro gene editing approaches.
  • Proficiency in omic data analysis software and tools.
  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of myeloid/stromal inflammation and fibrosis.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.
