This is a union position. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering direct client care and supporting the training of graduate-level interns. Works well in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Possesses excellent time management and documentation skills. Knowledgeable about using OT to treat children, adults, and families, as well as the systems that surround them in behavioral health settings. OT services may be provided in an outpatient office, residential treatment facility, or in the field, based on client and program needs. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual, family, and group OT to clients and their collaterals.
- Provide case management and rehabilitative services as needed to parents/caregivers of assigned clients.
- Work, within scope of practice, as an active treatment team member and closely collaborate with Prototypes medication services providers, therapist, case manager, and other team members, in the provision of treatment services as assigned.
- Interface and collaborate with invested stakeholders in clients' treatment (i.e. personnel of schools, DCFS, Courts, DMH, etc.)
- Assess areas of need and develop individualized treatment plans for clients in areas of regulation/sensory integration, cognition/executive functioning, occupational deprivation, independent living skills, play skills, connectedness with others, and other functional skill deficits as identified.
- Review and assess effectiveness of plans for treatment, problem lists, and client progress on an ongoing basis, through understanding of the clinical loop.
- Provide outreach services to individuals in the community.
- Participate in milieu activities of assigned programs.
- Provide supervision, mentorship, & field instruction to Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Students as assigned.
- Support the maintenance of an occupational therapy referral list, waiting list, and assignment of occupational therapy clients to occupational therapy student interns as needed.
- Maintain and update occupational therapy assessment and treatment materials including researching items and making funds requests.
- Provide clinical crisis assistance, as needed, within scope of practice.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with agency, HIPAA, and stake-holder standards.
- Ensure clinical documentation in client records is of high quality and meets professional standards.
- Arrange work schedule in accordance with the agency's needs and attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Comply with agency's policies and procedures.
- Meet expected performance hours as assigned by supervisor.
- Seeks clinical consultation throughout the treatment episode, especially when encountering new and/or high-risk clinical circumstances.
- Maintains frequent communication with the treatment team and engages in regular consultations, clinical team and case conferences, and plan development meetings.
Clinical Documentation:
- Write and complete all progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery.
- Maintains compliance with due dates for all needed documentation.
- Writes client progress letters and court reports, and obtains final approval from appropriate supervisor.
- Documentation maintained in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, DMH, and SAPC standards.
- Completes all assigned Peer Reviews (Chart Audits) within a timely matter.
Training, Supervision and Quality Improvement:
- Attends and actively participates in assigned Clinical Group Supervision.
- Actively participates in agency and team meetings.
- Participates in training opportunities.
- Communicates collaboratively with all members of the behavioral health team, including medical, mental health, psychiatry, substance use disorder, and other staff.
- Completes all assigned trainings and Relias trainings in a timely manner.
- Supports the training of OT interns as assigned.
Professionalism and Other Duties:
- Arrange work schedule in accordance with the agency's needs.
- Attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Reads emails daily and responds when appropriate.
- Transports clients as needed.
- Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team including the Clinical Therapist, Counselor, Substance Use Treatment Team, Medical provider(s), and Psychiatrist.
EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS: Education Requirements
- Master's Degree in Occupational therapy from an accredited university.
Experience
- Preferably a minimum of two years' experience in the human service field and/or demonstrated expertise in substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery.
- Experience working with clients experiencing chronic behavioral health issues, as well as experience working with children/families, is preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma informed services preferred.
- Experience delivering evidence-based practices preferred.
