POLLUTION CONTROL / OIL SPILL RESPONSE LEAD

Reports to: Assistant Program Manager

Location: Yorktown, VA

Schedule: Day, 40 hours/week;

Travel: 15-25%, Including International travel

Compensation: $78,000 - $102,000 depending on experience, estimated annually, plus two bonuses and H&W pay. Overtime, Straight Time.

Job Summary

This is a coordinating role interfacing with the pollution response teams with the Navy coordinating the warehousing, readiness and deployment logistics of pollution response equipment for response missions and for training exercises. At times this role can require shifting into managing field operations for equipment deployment for pollution / oil spill response missions. The qualified candidate will have extensive knowledge of pollution / oil spill response equipment and tactics as well as hazardous material operations. This is a full-time position with a long-term Navy contract that oversees the warehousing, maintenance and operation of the U.S. Navy's salvage, pollution control and underwater ship husbandry equipment.

Major Essential Job Functions

Pollution Response Operations

· 5 years of experience in marine pollution control / oil spill response operations OR graduate from Maritime Academy plus 1 year of oil spill response field operations experience.

· Collaborate with operations, logistics, and other departments to ensure equipment readiness and direct logistics of equipment deployment during a pollution control response operation. Provide equipment technical expertise and support during and spill response operations.

· Demonstrated experience with marine rigging, vessel operations in the context of pollution equipment deployment.

· Coordinate and direct offshore oil spill response field operations with respect to logistics, equipment deployment, procurement and tactics.

· Demonstrated experience operations involving ships, tankers, small craft, moored and towed systems, heavy lift and rigging equipment/systems.

· Apply a thorough understanding of safe procedures for the handling and transferring of petroleum products or other hazardous waste.

· Apply a deep understanding of behavior of oil on water and oil containment and recovery under various environmental conditions.

Project Management

· Perform corrective repairs and equipment modifications on oil spill response equipment, including vessels, pumps, skimmers, and other specialized machinery.

· Apply expert understanding of pollution control / oil spill response equipment to adapt or modify equipment in real time to fit the needs of the response scenario.

· Diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime. Conduct regular inspections to ensure all equipment is in optimal working condition.

· Communicate effectively with management, team members, and external stakeholders.

· Ability to produce clear reports in a clear, concise and timely manner, summarizing status of operations and equipment coordination.

Required Qualifications

· Education: Undergraduate degree in marine related technical discipline or Engineering

· Minimum Experience: 1+ years of experience in pollution control / oil spill response field operations with a degree; 5+ years without a degree

· Citizenship: Eligible candidates must be able to access the work site on a federal installation and is therefore limited to U.S. .

· Security Clearance: Must be able to successfully complete a background check and be eligible to obtain a Secret Clearance.

· HAZWOPER Certification: Successful candidates can complete training upon hire

· Extensive knowledge of marine oil spill response equipment.

· Ability to work in challenging marine environments and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

· Maritime Academy Graduate or Engineer

· USCG background in pollution control / Strike Team / environmental response a plus

· Government contracting / Department of Defense contracting experience is a plus
