[email protected] or 651-###-####. Description The Public Records Technician is a non-sworn employee assisting the Police Department by maintaining accurate police records and report files. - Process and maintain police reports and other associated documentation using a department records management system (RMS).
- Cooperate with and disseminate law enforcement data to other appropriate city, county, and state agencies.
- Enter and retrieve data, as required, by utilizing department RMS, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), MN Department of Public Safety - Portals, and MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) systems, along with other state and county computer-based systems and databases.
- Prepare and disseminate evidence for city and county prosecutors, social service agencies, law enforcement agencies, state agencies, and the courts.
- Process and release law enforcement data to the public, city and department employees, and other state and government agencies in accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), local and federal laws, and White Bear Lake Police Department policies and procedures.
- Act as property and evidence custodian overseeing the receipt, identification, categorization, storage, custody and disposition of physical evidence, video and audio evidence, found property, safekeeping items, and items held for destruction in accordance with court orders and established federal, state, local and department guidelines.
- Process and perform background checks for firearm permits to purchase.
- Provide excellent customer service and assistance as the department's back-up point of contact for walk-in, telephone, and email data requests and non-emergency calls for service.
- Maintain confidential data and information.
- Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
Typical QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum two years of administrative support or related experience.
- Ability to pass a law enforcement background check.
- Possess or ability to obtain and maintain BCA/CJIS Security Awareness Certification to include annual BCA Terminal Operators Certification within six months of hire.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Desirable Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in criminal justice or Law Enforcement.
- Previous experience in law enforcement, public safety, legal or court environment.
- Multilingual.
