Job Title

The City of Wichita is NOT an E-Verify Employer. This civilian role involves performing a variety of highly responsible, sensitive, and specialized clerical tasks, along with public-facing duties, within a law enforcement environment. The position requires handling criminal information, reports, and documents, both by phone and in person, while maintaining accurate and secure records unique to the field. Providing excellent customer service with confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism is key, following established policies, procedures, and regulations. While the role offers a high degree of independence in daily responsibilities, support and guidance from a supervisor are available as needed. Candidates will have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge and expertise through on-the-job training, making this an excellent position for individuals looking to grow in a specialized and dynamic work setting. This position is with the Wichita Police Department and requires a fingerprint submission and a full criminal history background check prior to being offered a position. Examples of Work Performed

Receives requests for information from officers, the public, and outside agencies by telephone, in person, and other means, and appropriately disseminates information to those authorized. Searches and retrieves information from the various resources of the Records Bureau; reads and accurately assesses misdemeanor and felony criminal history for officers in the field. Receives and processes incoming mail from police substations/divisions within the Department as well as other City departments and outside sources. Scans and files written police reports and various other forms of information. Assists with quality control of existing police report files. Processes credit card payments and cash transactions for the public, and issues change and receipts. Requirements of Work

Ability to quickly develop knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to Police Records. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of outside agencies, and the public. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of basic record-keeping methods requiring thorough attention to detail in entering and retrieving information from multiple databases. Accessing, reading, interpreting, and correctly disseminating records information. Respond to a steady volume of requests for information, both in person and over the telephone. Provide timely responses to internal and external customers' needs. Ability to deal with new procedures and/or variable or changing work conditions. Compliance with Department and City policies and procedures, relevant laws and regulations. Compliance with sound safety practices and procedures, including proper handling of equipment. Compliance with mandatory training requirements through the Department and City. May require ability to move up to 25 lbs. May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license. An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
