Hourly Pay Range:$26.61 - $39.92 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.Position Highlights:
  • Position: Point of Care Coordinator - Lab
  • Location: Northwest Community Healthcare
  • Full Time/Part Time: Part Time, 20 hours
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm
What you will do:
  • Serves as liaison between the Laboratory, Nursing, and Other Ancillary Departments (i.e. Inpatient Units and Service Lines) for POCT to enhance the quality of care delivered in each area of service. Oversees daily operations through interaction with team members in each area of testing; ensures testing and documentation are completed according to College of American Pathologist (CAP) and TJC guidelines; ensures that proper controls are in place and protocols are followed. Reports performance problems to the appropriate POC Unit Rep and POC manager; reports non-compliance issues to the POC Manager.
  • Provides training to POC operators to perform non-waived POC laboratory tests. Under direction of the laboratory POC Manager, develops and coordinates training programs for the performance of tests to ensure accurate POC testing, schedules training sessions, and signs-off on competency assessments. Documents all competency requirements and maintains schedule for mandatory re-certification of POC operators.
  • Provides training to the Unit Rep and trainers for all waived POC testing.
  • Keeps up to date on all current regulatory standards and relays updated information to the POC manager.
  • Reviews Quality Control (QC) and patient test results; performs or coordinates linearity checks and correlation studies to satisfy regulatory requirements. Reviews POCT and QC action and maintenance logs according to regulations.
  • Assigns and reviews proficiency testing and competency assessment for all POCT personnel according to the guidelines of TJC and CAP. Distributes testing materials to POCT testing areas, compiles results and sends to appropriate agency for review. Generates in-house proficiency testing specimens and grades results. Submits corrective action reports on test failures to the laboratory POC manager for follow up with the appropriate performing rep.
  • Participates in the evaluation, selection and implementation of POC testing equipment.
  • Serves as general troubleshooter for all departments performing POC testing, provides technical guidance and remedial actions to POC staff to ensure accurate test results.
  • Performs general duties to include continuous monitoring of the POCT data management system ensuring connectivity of all POCT patient results. Maintains current operator certification list.
  • Actively participates in Quality Assurance and performance improvement.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies and procedures.
What you will need:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree Medical Laboratory Science (MLS, MT, CLS) or equivalent.
  • Certification: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or equivalent required.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in non-waived testing.
