The Plant Manager is responsible for the management of all operations of the lettuce Processing Plant including washing, processing, packaging, warehousing and shipping, and maintenance. This position is also responsible for health & safety, quality and sanitation working in conjunction with the corporate departments. This role is mandated to obtain the best return on investment and the highest standard of quality, to achieve the established operational objectives.
By actively participating in the definition of the plant's strategy, the Plant Manager ensures the growth and sustainability of the organization, aligning efforts with the global business strategy of Vegpro International Inc.
Main responsibilities
Plan, organize, direct and control
- Develop and direct the actions of the business strategy to achieve objectives within the established budget
- Plan and direct resources to establish and implement systems and procedures to improve operational efficiency and support the continuous improvement process
- Actively participate in investment decisions
- Ensure improvement and compliance with quality, safety, food safety HACCP (Hazard Analytical Critical Control Points),
- GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) and environmental regulations
- Establish, in collaboration with our internal experts, the schedule for corrective and preventive maintenance work
- Reduce quality costs and internal errors
- Ensure the follow-up and respect of the established budget
- Safety leadership by building a safety culture and ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations
Ensure sound employee management
- Mobilize the team and ensure effective communication channels between employees and managers as well as with the head office
- Ensure the efficiency of the organizational structure and the organization of work of the management team
- Maintain a good working relationship with the union (UFCW)
- Organize and lead the various weekly and monthly team meetings
- Evaluate, ensure development of employee skills and manage the performance of team members on an ongoing basis
- Create an open dialogue with the next generation of employees to create a development plan with clear objectives
- Plan and obtain approval for staffing needs
- Ensure the application of company policies, programs and procedures
- Maintain production activities in the context of plant expansion or reorganization
- Supervise the installation of equipment in close collaboration with engineering and maintenance
- Act as a resource person when building safety is at risk due to breakage, theft, fire or other circumstances that could jeopardize the safety of buildings or individuals

Knowledge and skills sought
- Bachelor's degree in administration, operations management, food science, industrial or mechanical engineering or other equivalent related experience
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of relevant experience in a management position
- Expertise in the production, packaging or processing of vegetables or perishable products
- Demonstrated experience in operational excellence methodologies (e.g. Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen)
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and best practices for maintaining a safe, compliant production environment
- Proven commitment to workplace health and safety, with experience applying safety standards, conducting risk assessments, and supporting a safety-first culture in manufacturing settings
- Knowledge of Unionized Management laws and practices
- Fluency in English, spoken and written. French and or Spanish and is an asset
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Demonstrated leadership skills and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work under pressure and have a heightened sense of urgency
- Be available based on operational needs and for occasional travel
