Position Summary

The Plant Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the safe and efficient maintenance, repair, and replacement of plant equipment and systems to maximize production output and quality. This role oversees the Maintenance and Facilities teams at our Irwindale, CA location and ensures alignment with corporate policies regarding storeroom operations, parts procurement, facility upkeep, and fabrication activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of the Maintenance and Facilities departments, ensuring teams have the necessary resources and comply with all corporate safety protocols.
  • Identify and implement strategies to reduce equipment downtime, enhance reliability, and empower team members to recommend and drive improvements.
  • Support corporate safety initiatives, ensure timely submission of documentation, and review all incident reports to confirm appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage external vendors and contractors, review and approve quotes and proposals, and ensure compliance with safety procedures and insurance requirements.
  • Monitor mechanic utilization and work order backlog to prioritize maintenance activities in alignment with operational needs.
  • Oversee Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, performing regular audits to enhance reliability and reduce costs.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are tracked through accurate work order entry in the ERP system to build a robust equipment history.
  • Conduct regular audits of the maintenance shop, boneyard, and chemical storage areas to ensure proper organization, storage, and labeling practices.
  • Assess training needs, develop succession plans, and build bench strength within the Maintenance team to ensure business continuity.
  • Manage labor utilization and overtime, and ensure adherence to department budgets.
  • Foster strong relationships across all levels of the organization, promoting collaboration and accountability.
  • Provide performance feedback, conduct reviews, and coach team members through formal development plans.
  • Ensure alignment with SQF, GMP, QA, and food safety requirements, and immediately report any food safety or security concerns.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to work order processes and daily maintenance routines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 5–7 years of maintenance and facilities management experience required; food manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading multi-craft maintenance teams and implementing preventive maintenance systems.
  • Proficiency in budget management, variance analysis, and use of software/spreadsheets.
  • Deep understanding of OSHA, FDA, GMP, and food safety standards.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies such as Lean or TPM.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and team-building capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance protocols and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs regularly, and work extended hours in wet, cold environments.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing setting.
